Kind of. It is genitive, plural case. Literally "of the." Ivan Ivanovich Ivanov - "John, son of John of the family of Johns.
I was close. My knowledge of Russian history is far deeper than my knowledge of their language and origins of words and names.

Britain would have been Cool Hand Luke and Germany would have been Dragline.

I'll let my reputation on historic matters speak for itself. I have nothing to prove, especially to a little angry Russian like you.

Let's stop feeding him, Darth. Like Sabi wisely did. He's a soccer board troll, apparently quite the foul-mouthed one.

See. That was a hanging change up and you still didn't get it.
See how that works.
But Ace is right. You're a troll. Thanks for shitting on what was a great thread.

He would fit in Russia. It's a cesspool of death and false pride. It's why we fled when we got the chance.

I do believe if I ever found myself at a point in my existence where I had nothing better to do than troll at thread non stop for two plus hours, I'd realize at that point there was no reason to go on living.

One on one, Germany could have taken any of the European powers
That is only because of a failure of will, not due to Germany being all-powerful. Even as late as 1940 if Britain and France had been smarter about prosecuting the war, they could have defeated Germany.
France had more and better tanks than Germany, but poor leadership and tactics; nearly the same for the British. It's a true crime that these two countries failed the test of leadership at a crucial time.

Excellent point about France. They had a standing army of almost 1,000,000 men and when war was declared they called up another 5,000,000 reserves. The French army was, at that time regarded as the best in the world. And yet somehow, even with the assistance of the British the Germans still knocked France flat in only six weeks.
One thing though that's often overlooked about the Battle of France, that is it was no cake walk for the Germans. In fact, it was up to that time one of the most violent and bloody battles in history. Yes the Germans made France quit in a little over a month. But they paid a very heavy price in the process, losing over 150,000 men, 1,200 aircraft, and close to 800 tanks.
Can you imagine how the American public would react today if the U.S. sustained those sort of losses in a six week period*? Yet, for some reason the Battle of France is widely viewed as an easy German victory.
* To put this in perspective, in the almost decade long Vietnam War, the US had over 300,000 casualties, counting 58,000 killed. But that was spread out over a decade. The German losses in the six week French campaign of 1940 included almost 30,000 killed.
