re: WWE Saudi C.J. 2010 "PPV" Aftermath

The question is who is WWE going to get to work these shows in the future. They have a precedent of allowing their wrestlers to opt out (Sammy Zayn, Kevin Owens, etc). The talent has apparently said they don’t want to go back. Now WWE could just take a hard line and terminate the contract if anyone who refuses to go. However, now there is AEW who would love to grab some disgruntled WWE stars.
It will be interesting to see how this plays out. It will also be interesting to see the reaction of the locker room to today’s announcement of two shows a year in SA. The timing of the announcement is odd considering the events of last week.

Which explains Vince’s position.
I think he is going to have a lot of trouble getting people to agree to go there as of now.
They already had people ducking out of this trip over the Khashoggi stuff, such as Daniel Bryan and John Cena. People getting detained under suspicious circumstances can’t go over well with most of the roster.
Lesnar et all could probably give a shite because he flew himself and some others out instead of being stopped but the rank and file didn’t have that option.

Brock actually gets a private plane as part of his contract. Most people will still go because its a huge payday, bigger than WM. Sammi can't go because he's the wrong kind of muslim. They would literally kill him. Daniel Bryan is an SJW and John Cena has a film career to worry about.

I haven't watched..but do Saudis appear to be passionate fans of wrestling or is it a shitty environment?

I’m well aware of Brock and his private plane. That’s part of how try tried to keep him in the mid-2000s before he initially ditched for UFC.
My point is that Brock flying out and taking Hogan, Jimmy Hart, Ric Flair, and others with him kind of creates a two tier handling of things to where top guys are treated different than the other guys, which seems an awful lot like the old WCW locker room where Hogan, Nash, Hall, etc got a lot of perks that the other guys didn’t.

That's how it's always been.

Brock is a special case and everyone knows it. Seth, Roman, Braun, etc don't get that kind of treatment and they're all top guys.

The reason I brought the plane up is that a number of wrestlers apparently bitched about how some guys got a separate charter out while they got stuck under questionable circumstances.
Brock is a whole other order of conversation between the plane, not working TV, etc. He kind of exemplifies a lot of the problems with the roster to where part-timers like him an Batista end up getting a lot of big PPV checks while the guys working house shows and TV get screwed.

WWE haters have gone full tin foil alex Jones with this story

Somebody needs to shoot and fast. That's the only thing that's going to get us the full story. I've read 4 or 5 plausible accounts of what happened. I still go back to the flight plan they filed with the Saudis vs the fastest way out of their airspace route that they took.
If any of this were true national media outlets would have picked it up by now
Instead the only people pushing these conspiracy theories are random dirt sheet wrestling blogs and dave metzler who has a known heavy anti WWE bias

Crowds have been top tier at the saudi shows

Did we ever hear the details did MBS make Vince kiss the ring? What happened with the flight plan vs actual route?

So far there are a ton of stories and it's probably going to take a few years before the shoot videos Vince out. Graves mentioned on his podcast that "The 20" (as they're behind called) were chosen because they were advertised and would minimize the disruptions to Smackdown. That's the one story that I think is most believable.
Here's the tracking map from that night showing them make the turn north right after they got over the Red Sea.

WWE, for once, will actually have to pay the talent a fair payday instead of the peanuts they usually pay (in comparison to what WWE makes)
the Saudi Arabia shows are different than any other show or deal they currently have. Saudi Arabia is paying WWE around 30-50 million per show (twice a year). why would the average wrestler making $500,000 and working 200 shows a year want to go over there for peanuts?
most of the main event talent at these Saudi Arabia shows are rumored to be getting seven figure paydays to go over there and deal with all of their nonsense. it won't be long before everyone on the card is getting a six figure payday for that one show and rightfully so considering the money and risk involved.

The average wrestler in the WWE actually makes half that, or a little less according to the contract leaks last year. Big guys make that and a lot more, but most make in the $200k-$300k range.

Paydays range wildly from year to year.
WWE contracts have a downside guarantee but you generally get far more than that unless business is in the toilet or you pissed someone off and got sent home.
He also has a point upthread about the middle and lower card guys not wanting to go. If they aren’t getting paid far above a normal PPV paycheck or foreign tour paycheck, why end up at the mercy of a monarchy who has shown that it can be vicious when it feels provoked?
To use early 2000s examples, Kaientai not going isn’t necessarily an issue because they are one set of jobbers. But them, Edge and Christian, the Hardy Boyz, the Dudleyz, Too Cool, Haas and Benjamin, Test and Albert, and 4-5 other tag teams all opting out eventually leaves a big gap in the card.
A revolt by the so-called “JOB Squad” is pretty unlikely in theory but could always happen when there is competition willing to sign them up if they get cut.
