re: WWE has competition again, WarnerMedia announces AEW weekly live show on TNT
As much as I'd love WWE to have legit competition and get back to the Attitude type era, I highly doubt any startup promotion will be able to compete.

WWE just has too many resources and will certainly buy AWE out (which is probably what AWE wants) before they ever make a dent.

A lot of it has been good. Just saying it’s a good thing WWE has scaled back the amount of matches every week. The TV audience would much rather see an in ring or backstage segment with someone like Bliss, Evans, Naomi, etc. than they would a 10 minute Nia Jax match.

Good looking women draw ratings.

The WWE Network is WWE's Infinity Gauntlet with all 6 stones.

Until masses of people unsubscribe (which ain't happening because of the ridiculous amount of content) startups have an impossible hill to climb.

ETA and the Saudi Arabia deal.....people can bitch about that all they want but it puts WWE into a new level from an earnings standpoint

Of course it is. Never said it wasn’t.

Was also pointing out the weak attendance numbers for the all-women’s PPV as well.

I thought you were trying to give supporting evidence of your claim it was presented that way .....also they sold 7000 tickets to Evolution....which I wouldn't consider bad for a card that didn't advertise a single male superstar.

Depends what you mean by competition. There is most certainly competition for talent. In WWE, the brand is the draw. There are no real stars. People watch Wrestlemania or Royal Rumble because of the history of those shows. People will watch AEW for actual stars and good matches.

I don't know what TNT's expectations are ratings wise, but I think they'll be doing ok if they can average a million viewers a week in 6 months. WWE is barely holding on to 2 million a week now.

WWE is known to greatly exaggerate ticket numbers. Although the real number for that PPV is unknown, it definitely wasn’t 7,000. Numerous reports say closer to 5,000 with most selling for less than $10 from scalpers.

“around 3,000 of those tickets were sold to scalpers. Scalpers started unloading their tickets on the secondary market this past week, with some going for as low as $8 and $9.”

That's what people used to say about TNA, and look where they're at.

People SAY they like to watch good matches, but they always go back to the production value of WWE. Only a small niche will be loyal to AEW because of the match quality.

TNA had lots of star power. Their early years were great. Then Dixie Carter and Hulk Hogan took over.

AEW got a tv deal in part due to the production of quality of All In. It actually looked like a professional production. I'm guessing TNT will also help in that regard. Maybe provide production equipment or pay a good director or something like that. TNT isn't putting something on tv that looks like crap.

Mark alert!....yea they exaggerate from 70K to 90K....not 5 to 7... Like you said we don't have a clue what the attendance was but my go to source, PWI, says 7K....I choose to trust them I don't fault you if you don't.

ETA a lot of sources like Pro wrestling Insider (Not Illustrated) said it was a sellout with their people in the building....which I don't believe FWIW.

Exactly.....WWE looks like a great TV show every week...twice a week. All In looked awesome for an Indie show but it didn't compete with even Raw's production value. We'll see what happens when they go weekly. If they go the route of TNA production then God help them.

Even most WWE fans can admit that the writing has been atrocious for the most part over the last several years. They (Vince) doesn’t allow talent to get over naturally like they did back in the glory days (and if they do get over with the fans they are punished for it by being held back). Vince picks his favorites and that’s it.

Who are Becky Lynch and Kofi Kingston?

I was just reading a Wrestling Observer from March 2001 when that shithead Jamie Kellner took WCW off of TBS and TNT. Feels kinda surreal now.

They only survived because of Dixie's daddy money though. That's what got them Sting and getting on Spike. They had 0 "star" power before then.

I hate how sterile WWE shows look now though. They don't even have unique sets for the PPVs anymore. Everything is so generic.
