Not sure if true, but I was told when I was a kid that the Exxon administrative building in Baton Rouge was built to resemble a ship.

The reason being is that if ever attacked/bombed, the enemy may target the building instead of the refinery.

I believe it was built in the 1940s. Probably a bullshite story but it kind of makes sense.

Why they put that neighborhood right there around all those big buildings and runways? But looks like a nice place to grow up.

Little "pilot towns" around large airfields was not unusual in those days. It was almost the norm.

And, for the times, I hear they were great neighborhoods to grow up in as children, if you could stand the military life.
