that could just as easily be him dealing w/a sudden rush of emotion caused by him remembering how his dead sister used to really like pineapple.
Burke said pineapple was his favorite snack and that JB didn't have a favorite. He only said she liked pineapple after the interrogator asked if she did.

i guess that could be plausible

which could be nothing more than him subconsciously trying to repress specific memories of things that make him remember her.
plus he was 11 at the time.
11 years old will forget what they were doing 5 minutes ago until you remind them.
have you never seen a parent repeatedly ask their kid about something (favorite food, friend, tv show, whatever) only to have to remind them when they can't come up with an answer?

What 9 year old kid doesn't have "secrets"? You and they are trying to make it out like "secrets" to a 9 year old means the same sinister things it does to an adult (an affair, a drug problem, gambling debts, embezzlement), when it doesn't mean the same thing at all.
Pretty sure you're injecting that in my post, I just stated what he factually said.

I'm not saying you're wrong, but now you're reading as much into his reaction as everyone else.

not reading into anything so much as I'm coming up with plausible reasons for him to behave in a way that some think points to his guilt.
that's why last night I said I have no idea if he did it but what CBS aired did not do much to make me assume he is guilty.
there is just way too much that can be plausibly explained IMO.

Exactly

No WAY!!! An 11 year old wasn't totally consistent under interrogation?

Again, I'm not saying you're wrong, but your explanation is no more plausible than any others in this thread.
I asked if it was possible he had Asperger's because it could explain awkwardness and lack of emotion. It might also explain inability to hold a conversation, including answering a simple question about what was in a bowl.
It's obviously all speculative, but it doesn't make it less interesting that his attitude appeared to change when he was asked about the photo.

It is, because it is more simple. Occam's Razor.
He could have some rare mental disorder and be some secret murdering kid trained to survive interrogation like a kiddie Jason Bourne... or, maybe he was just a scared 11 year old and it's really not that complex or even interesting!

I don't know if this is verbatim, but...
"Pineapple is my favorite snack."
"Was pineapple JonBenet's favorite snack?"
"I don't think she had a favorite."
"Did she like pineapple?"
"Yeah, she liked it."
Where's the "totally inconsistent" part?
I don't think I need kids for that mind-bender.

I'm not. I don't believe that the kid's statements mean he killed her. Just that if he did kill her, his reactions are certainly in line with that theory. Sure, they can be explained otherwise. But at the very least his behavior arouses suspicion.

Occam's Razor? Your explanations use just as many assumptions as ours do.

This intruder sure was comfortable in the house to do all the things that are made out to be when the people are home. To go into her room, only take her, she was not tazed.. those markings are not a tazer IMO.. she would have been making some sort of noise.. there should be some sort of more struggle in her room.
Then take her elsewhere.. do all those wicked things.. go back into the kitchen area or wherever, use a knife from a drawer I believe that was in another room, go get a pad and pen and write out a 2-3 page letter.. leave it in the middle of the house.. just have absolutely no concern for time or being caught.. take time to hide the body.. and vanish without a trail.. leave through that window without disturbing the cobwebs.. i mean they just roaming all throughout the house without a care.
it was never about money. why not take the son too? why not bring tape and tape his mouth shut? or hers? or wait, just go find some in the house.. since they know how to find everything and have all the time to do so.
If it didn't go to plan, why not write a different note and perhaps say another family member is next if they don't pay. because it wasn't about money.
and if it was personal.. why not mention anything about the son being next?? why no more actual threats? why never any follow up? why no mention of the wife in the note? or if it was personal why not just say "I killed her! live in misery!"
This is most likely a cover up that can't fully be proved.. and will remain a mystery. and the fact that it was on Christmas.. seems more family related. of course bad things can happen on Christmas.. but all the more likely to be family related.. along with most data that points to the likelihood of it being someone on the inside.
the dna on the clothes could be from anywhere and is very inconclusive. if his mystery intruder was this good, i doubt he'd leave those behind. why leave her with underwear if they are so sick? her clothes easily could have been tampered with by someone in the home any ways.. no? even changed. i wouldn't rule out anything when it comes to the ridiculousness here. anything is possible i suppose, but hardly likely to be some mystery person.
the mom already lost one child and didn't want to lose another. even if he was only 9 and wouldn't have served time.. he probably would go through a lot of evaluation and this type of mom seems very controlling in nature and probably was afraid of losing that control or son.. even if i wasn't likely. the note itself interest me, because it never makes mention of anyone else in his family! think about that.. and it constantly names John.. and says "use that southern charm" who would write that in a note.. seems something a female would say. just my opinion though.. as none of us really know..

He should have pulled out some real life pineapple first, asked him what it was and then shown him the picture. The kid's reaction was peculiar based on the symbolism of the pineapple and taken alone it's not a huge deal but together with all the other shady "coincidences" in this case I think it's extremely telling and you could admit that.

To play devil's advocate, if there were an intruder who did it because it was personal, I think living in misery would be not following up and letting the parents take the heat from the police and the public
If there were an intruder, he did an excellent job at fricking up these people's lives

interrogation
You keep calling those interviews with Burke "interrogations".
The interview done two weeks after the murder was with a child psychologist from the Child Advocacy Center.
The second one was with a Boulder PD detective who traveled to Atlanta to interview Burke 2 years after the murder.
After watching both interviews, I'd be hard pressed to call either of them "interrogations" - especially not the first one. Neither interviewer pressed Burke on his answers. Even when Burke refused to do something as basic as identifying a bowl of pineapple.
He was treated with kid gloves. And maybe he deserved to be, he was after all an actual kid. But let's not pretend he got water boarded or something.

If you believe the cops, john was confirming travel plans out of town the next day within a couple of hours of finding jonbenet's body in the basement. That's not odd at all
