When is this okay to do during the dating process? Would it be weird to do it anytime before you're officially boyfriend-girlfrend?

May not be weird. Depends on the tone

I would write more as song lyrics

I'm a poetic guy. Not good with musical rhythms though.

I'd say it depends on how good you are and, of course, on the girl. In college, I shared some I'd written with a girl before we even went on a date dating. For others, I held of until well into the relationship.

You could always show her something you've written that's not about her, gauge her response, and use that to determine whether she would appreciate it or not.

God is great
God is good
Let us thank him for my wood

Bow your head you must be fed
Thank you Lord for daily head.

Ahhmen.

Please don't do this until you at least know her feelings for you. It will come off as super weird and creepy if you don't.

I was going to give the standard smart arse answer, but I guess I'll give my genuine opinion. It depends almost exclusively if she is really into you. If she is then it is sweet and thoughtful even if your poetry sucks. If she isn't into you then it is creepy and pathetic. As far as I can tell it's that simple. Good luck.

This girl loves literature and poems. We've been talking a while and she loves it when I say something profound. That's why I'm thinking it's a good idea

I wouldn't do this unless I was already in a serious, committed relationship. Otherwise, it can easily come off as too clingy.

Can you just give her a book of poems? Rose by Li Young Lee worked for me.
