I hated Cornette so much as a kid.
Now I realize what a genius that guy was.

I think he will probably just cancel your order.

Meh....that's nothing to brag about. She came everywhere.

It's a shame Mid-South Wrestling went off the rails with the UWF. But I suspect it would have happened eventually as the WWF monster kept making national inroads and syphoning off the territorial crowds and viewers. It also didn't help that the oil bust hurt Texas and Louisiana, which also resulted in the crowds dwindling. Houston and New Orleans were huge to the MSW bottom line.
Multiple things happened to screw the UWF.
Oil bust was a big one, as it helped kill Oklahoma and Louisiana as territories, but they took a major dive earlier as JYD was on the way out the door.
The failed Mr Wrestling II heel turn / beating JYD shite the bed because they screwed up the finishing move in the downtown New Orleans building where JYD was God. No one bought him losing off that one and it helped kill that building for the territory, as IIRC they started doing more shows at UNO and/or St Bernard.
And after JYD bolted for the WWF, Watts tried to replace him with a bunch of other black babyfaces and it failed mainly because JYD had been so over and you can't replace someone like JYD with a pale imitation of JYD, even if the JYD of that time couldn't wrestle and looked like shite because of bad habits (drugs and junk food). Watts even brought in Muhammed Ali to try and get a rub for subsequent replacement, Snowman, and it didn't work.

Cornette and the Midnight Express' feud with the Rock N Roll Express in 1984 was as good as wrestling gets. The Cornette/Bill Watts angle was also phenomenal. Cornette was the master of drawing heat as the slick mama's boy.
Any time he had anything to do with Terry Funk was great, too. Cornette could sell being deathly terrified of Funk. I laugh my arse off every time I see Funk tear his pants off, and then Corny coming back out with them duck taped together to give a promo.

Other than Paul Heyman...the manager is dead in WWE.
In general, that's been dead for QUITE a while.
Paul Bearer was the last remaining remnant of that for the longest time until Heyman was turned into Brock Lesnar's mouthpiece.
Instead, they tended to put a model with fake tits next to a guy and hope it worked. You would get a Trish Stratus who would become a great wrestler on one end of the spectrum and a Jackie Gayda on the other end who couldn't pour piss out of a boot.

Exactly

He was great as Brock's mouthpiece but with Roman he's been pretty useless after the "shock" sighting on their first night together. MVP reminds me of the old school former wrestlers turned managers (Heenan & Fuji being the best of that group.) He's been great as Lashley's mouth piece and can get physical in limited situations. As for the "hot manager" I don't think anyone beats Stacy.

Teddy Long stayed around a minute...although he did end in an "authority" role. I'd like to see old Teddy come back honestly.

He hasn't been horrible with Roman....I mean he hasn't been as good as he was when he was the one and only talker.

MVP has been incredible since he got injured and went to full time manager of Lashley...in fact I think dropping Benjamin and Ced made Lashley and MVP stronger.
I think manager's could work in a lot of situations today....I mean how good could Corny be as Zayn's current characters manager...I think it would work well. I think someone like Teddy could do wonders for a guy like Shinsuke. Hell I bet if you would have put Heyman with Shinsuke as soon as he moved to the main roster Shinsuke would already be a top of the card star....AND don't change his fricking music

Have it read, "GODDAMNNN! You couldn't whip cream with an outboard motor, motherfricker!!"
Politics aside, I love Corny's podcasts.
Whenever I happen upon a large box at work or at home, I can't help but think that somebody's about to get over.

One of the greatest Cornette stories I ever heard was Bruce Prichard telling everyone about George the Rat.
Posted on 5/21/21 at 3:33 pm to cardswinagain
It’s said that Cornette’s bachelor party consisted of him, Prichard, and Dave Meltzer watching classic wrestling matches on VHS tape in a cramped hotel room.

For sure....I think he hates Michaels, Nash, Hall, and HHH more for the curtain call than anything else.
Yep, they broke kayfabe. Vince made HHH pay for it but then he broke it wide the frick open himself.
Posted on 5/21/21 at 4:39 pm to Bard
Vince eventually realized that with the way media was going that kayfabe would go down in a blaze of glory eventually.....he was able to control the narrative on it a little bit rather than wait for the internet.
