Buying a set of his figures for my kid. Going with the "Thank You, frick You, Bye" inscription for 1 of them. Any of you baws want to guess what I get if I requested he sign the other "Vote Red"? I think the result could be interesting.

Or ask him to sign it "Train Conductor"?

Give it to your son, then smack him in the face with a tennis racket for true authenticity.

Whatever makes him lose his mind and rant uncontrollably for 2 hours is fine with me. Hell, tell him to sign it, "Love, Vince Russo."

Tell him to sign it:

"To the greatest mind in the history of the business...Vince Russo!!!"

That will get him and his cow worked up.

ETA With all he has seen and done in wrestling and the fact that he has established some modicum of fame I can't believe he married that.

I heard a pod cast with him on it last year. MidSouth Wrestling was like the wild wild west back in the day. They traveled like nomads and would post up in shitholes all over the south, mostly in Louisiana.

Not really surprised at the demographic here.

Jack Cristal should be in the initial class of the Masochist HOF

Yep I think back then (hell maybe even today) wrestlers weren't the most savory of characters and were more comfortable among their kind in dumps than at nice hotels.....also most probably couldn't afford the nice hotels night after night back then.

Huge fan of Corny, especially when one of the wrestling companies does something ridiculous.

I mean some of his takes are pretty good....but often times he is way too influenced by an angle that happened in the 1960s that wouldn't translate to 2021 at all.

ETA I do love to hear him shite on AEW it is funny....he also equally shits on WWE so don't get your panties in a wad AEW baws.

Missy Hyatt came in my father's store one day, I chatted with her and she signed my cast. Eddie Gilbert stayed outside in a huge 4 door lincoln.

Right - I think the reason I like his takes so much is because he's dead arse serious about what wrestling used to be, and it brings back great memories for me personally. I remember watching Midsouth & NWA with my grandparents and their friends back in the day, and they took wrestling very seriously. Everyone there was cheering/booing just as if they were in the building watching it live. Obviously this was back when there were very few smart fans and the business had not yet been fully exposed.

For sure....I think he hates Michaels, Nash, Hall, and HHH more for the curtain call than anything else.

Cornette and the Midnight Express' feud with the Rock N Roll Express in 1984 was as good as wrestling gets. The Cornette/Bill Watts angle was also phenomenal. Cornette was the master of drawing heat as the slick mama's boy.

It's a shame Mid-South Wrestling went off the rails with the UWF. But I suspect it would have happened eventually as the WWF monster kept making national inroads and syphoning off the territorial crowds and viewers. It also didn't help that the oil bust hurt Texas and Louisiana, which also resulted in the crowds dwindling. Houston and New Orleans were huge to the MSW bottom line.

I take both meltzer and cornette with a grain of salt.

Both are gods in terms of history with wrestling.

Both are extremely out of touch in terms of what is good long term for the business.

Cornette is funny af in the small YouTube clips. Can’t do the entire 3-4 hour show but I do like the sound bites.

Exactly - this promo for example.

LINK

He starts off with a touch of comedy, but by the end, you can really believe he means what he's saying. He's also running down the competition, but still putting them over at the same time as well. Promos of this caliber are just not near as prevalent in today's product.

Yea it's tough to get tag team wrestling over today though.....you see how hard it is for AEW to get FTR and the Bucks over.

Yea Watts/Mid-South had to try something to try to keep up with WWF....the issue he had was he was too damn stubborn to really try to work with other promoters. That eventually got him bought by Crockett....but I guess Bill go the last laugh when he was picked to run WCW after they bought JCP. But ultimately his ego killed him there too.

The biggest problem is today they aren't interested in finding the next Cornette, Prichard/Brother Love, Heyman, Slick, etc....the guy that can talk and get people over but can't work a lick in the ring. It just doesn't seem like they are searching these guys out these days even as much as they were 15-20 years ago.

Other than Paul Heyman...the manager is dead in WWE.
