Would you pay .10 cents extra per gallon of gas for a BR loop and Bridge?

Our biggest hurdle to creating a loop around Baton Rouge including a westside connector is lack of funds. Would you vote for a gasoline tax to build a Loop, Bridge south of Plaquemine, westside connector, and an expansion of highway 30?

My sister works for DOTD as an engineer. She siad yesterday why we don't have funds and why Texas does to do all these loops and maintenances: tolls.
You want nice shite, institute tolls so we don't have to rely on the federal funds to do shite.
It's that simple. But the populace and the politicians don't want to do it.

No, because that extra tax would remain after the construction and become permanent.

I would be ok with it, but I'd rather charge it directly to the user like the other states do it. A buck or a buck 50 to cut traveling through BR down to 10 mins would be well worth it.

Once the tolls are instituted, they funds still need to be administered properly.

That's because Louisiana residents don't trust their politicians with toll money because of how often, in the past, that toll money went to line the pockets of some politician while the infrastructure crumbled.

stop putting misinformation out there. the whole loop, if built in it's entirety, is monumentally expensive, but it is and has always been planned to be a toll road built in pieces and "paid for" by the people who are using it...tolls.
it's not surrounding parishes "paying for a baton rouge problem," and it's not only baton rouge paying for connectivity for surrounding parishes.

I think all surrounding parishes should pay. Livingston, EBR, WBR, Iberville and Ascension. St. James should chip in as well to relieve some congestion from the sunshine bridge and area.

It is my understanding that in Texas, there are international companies (several Japanese) that build some of the major highways and then collect the tolls over the life of the road. Not sure if this LA has considered this or not.

Even those that will never cross the newly constructed roads will benefit from its creation. I'm willing to bet that there are plenty of EBR citizens that are hoping for these bypasses to come along as well, even though they may never use them.

What killed the loop project the last time was actually this mindset. The southern portion was swinging so far south that it was practically unusable. Everyone in favor of the loop was only hoping the loop would go through so that other people would use it so that they could have I-10/12 to themselves. Most loop proponents in Baton Rouge were the ultimate NIMBYs. They wanted everyone else to have the loop built through their homes so those other people could use the loop, leaving I-10 free for them to use.
The northern loop MUST be built. The southern end would be a great bonus, but could be rendered unnecessary (though it still would be beneficial) by widening Highway 30 and making improvements to state highways in Ascension and Iberbille Parishes.

i agree 100% with that. i'm just pointing out there is already a ton of misinformation already out there about the loop, and the OP may lead people to believe there is a tax on everyone, even people who would never use it, being considered.
