Having two sons would probably be the biggest knock on going with a Jr. IMO.

Yes. I would love to share my great name with my son. Upperdecker Jr
Posted on 9/1/16 at 10:32 am to slackster
I did..
The name we had originally picked was taken by my wifes sister.. There son was born 3 months before ours.. not even the name but what they call him.. Every time we'd come up with another name, we would think of some a-hole that we didnt want to think about when calling our childs name

My name is a very historic family name within our ancestry. Goes back hundreds of years. I am strongly considering passing it down.
My brother's is as well and he is the 3rd.
ETA:
I would absolutely never call a son "Junior" though. They would go by their actual name.

I guess I don't understand this because it was never a point of contention with my family.

I do agree with this. I knew a couple kids growing up who were juniors, and I didn't know that until later on because they went by their dads' middle names (which is probably what I'd do)

Yeah I'm sure it is hardly a blip for anyone, but that is the personal hurdle I would have with it. The boys would probably never give a shite, but it would worry me.

It may never be an issue, and who is to say you're guaranteed another son anyway, but that is the first concern I'd have to address if I went that route.

Just don't call your son by his middle name. I go by my middle name and it's a pain sometimes. Not so much anymore as it was when I was in school.
If I hear my first name it's usually in court or the doctor's office.

I'm a III and my son will be the IV. The wife isn't fully convinced but I don't give a frick. She'll still be drugged up when I'm signing the birth certificate.

My family has a history of dads naming sons after themselves. I am one of those and I was a II. My cousin was one and he is a [name] Jr.
Personally, I think junior kinda sounds trashy but whatever you and your wife want is all that matters.
The II is reserved for someone who is named not after their father.

Done it and he uses his middle name shortened to a nickname by his momma! All good!
