Seriously, there are plenty of places in Asia I would live in provided I had a comfortable salary relative to the place. Vietnam would be awesome, Seoul is chill, Thailand is beautiful, Taiwan is cool, and I'm just scratching the surface. Asia is awesome.
Africa really just has Johannesburg and Cape Town to live in long term, and that's it. Everywhere else sucks on that continent as far as long term living conditions are concerned. Yeah Asia fricks you on air conditioning and ice, but everything else is pretty cool. It's a super safe continent to travel in and the people are very friendly (assuming you're not black). If you're black, then go to Africa. Not being racist at all, but the asians certainly are and don't treat black people well over there at all.

Yep. Had a black friend in Beijing, and the way he was treated was absolutely atrocious. I saw Chinese people on multiple occasions see him and run for their lives in opposite directions, and he would have daily photo requests. We went to a beach resort near Russia, and even the Russians were requesting pics, even more often than the Chinese were.

To be fair, the worst treatment I got from Chinese was prolonged stares. Nothing went beyond that, but it was still uncomfortable.
In Africa, I would at least qualify for Ghana citizenship since I'm a black American. There are probably other places that I could live comfortably.

My dad pretty much spends 90% of the year just traveling. He liked living in Thailand but his favorite place by far is surprisingly Guatamala. He just moved there and is going to use that as his home base from now on.

Meh, I've had this happen to me overseas for being white.
Now the running away part, not so much
Asia includes Turkey so you could do something like Istanbul and be virtually European.
I think I'd opt out of Africa long term

Maybe the Phillipines or Vietnam. Japan and Korea would be too expensive.

I've got it too, but it was few and far between, especially in Beijing. Really not sure if it happened once to me in the city. This was happening to this guy in the bar district, with tons of westerners and 20 year olds.

SE Asia - I was told street food in Taiwan is awesome and they're really accepting of Americans there. Sounds awesome.

I think some of y'all aren't aware of how xenophobic the Japanese can be (especially the older folks).

I know several people who have bought land and will retire there. Boracay seems to be a fairly nice island location.

Known a few people who have lived there/were from there. All have/had bodyguards. It's probably not as dangerous as it once was, but it's most certainly one of the less safe Asian countries. In the general area, I think only Indonesia comes close.
