Good plan to see if your current employer will match the new offer. Best of luck
His BATNA is massive so if he can't negotiate a counter offer then where he's working is obviously not the place for him. He has no future there if they aren't willing to pay to keep him.

I'd do it, do you have a SO and could she find a job easily in the new city?

Take the money while you can, work your way up, then be selective about what and where you take a job.

LIC?

Long Island?

Nassau county?

Never mind. Long Island City.

Man, it's crazy here. How often do you take train into the city?

I did this years ago and then the Financial crisis hit and my new company went under.

I ended up out on my arse with no job.

I live in the city, so I'm confused by your question. I use the subway every day.

Don't go. McDonalds Assistant manager is not that much better than Burger Kings Fry Cook. Think of the added stress.

I meant Manhattan.

My bad man.

I've just been driving all over the place this week here in town and it's hard to remember where everything is.

I'm in Uniondale.

Pros: Instant promotion, Significantly higher pay (nearly double), Cheaper cost of living city, and closer to family , no kids.

Take the job now. Way to many positives. If you are close to your family then this is a home run for sure. The older you become means spending time with your family becomes more of a priority.

Austin's cool, it aint that cool. Especially to move to a city that has a lower cost of living.

17 years in Austin and I left for more money.

It's confusing because sometimes when people say "the city" they mean anywhere in NYC, other times they mean Manhattan. Kinda like how there's a different between being "in Long Island" and being "on Long Island". Queens and Brooklyn are on Long Island but they aren't in Long Island.

Not counting Jackson or really just about anywhere else in Landmass, I fully agree with you.
