re: Would You Drive This? The most affordable long range EV sold in the US

We had a friend who jumped on the first generation Bolt. He was all gung ho. Had plans to charge it while he was at work for free and eliminate cost of transit from his budget. Pulled up at our house to show off the new technology. Wife refused to ride in a back seat that small. Also, said she would feel like there was nothing between her and other cars.
Maybe they have improved the interior space and widened the chassis since then?

Nukes. We’ve been using nuclear energy for 50 years. It works so long as you don’t build on the coast and bury the pump generators where they can flood.
I am all for it as long as they build some decent reservoirs for cooling and stock them with fish from the sharelunker program and plant hydrilla.

All I can say about EV's is that the melts are gonna be hilarious when wives start bringing them home without asking.

Exactly but I'm pretty sure every gas car can go 300+ miles on a full tank without that.
Almost no one drives 300+ miles per day. Most people drive less than 60 miles per day. So they’ll go a week without needing a charge. Or you can just plug it in at home overnight and never have to worry about range.
This is 7-8 year old technology available for less than the average new car price in the US. You guys complain that EV’s are too expensive. This thing will fit the needs of 90% of private car owners and it costs about what a Camry or Accord costs these days.

Sorry Texas. If you have this car (or the new Mustang Mach E, Tesla Model 3, or Cybertruck), you can't charge at home now because you guys don't know how to provide electricity in cold weather.
If you are in Texas and there isn't power to the gas station, you can't fuel up either. Gas and Diesel pumps operate on electricity.

But what if i want to drive more than 60 miles in a day? What if I want to go camping for a weekend in the middle of nowhere 200 miles away?

Even if I did, where the heck am I going in this weather?
Even if I needed to go somewhere, I can find a Supercharger within 15 minutes of me and can get charged up to 80% in 10-15 minutes.
Not an issue...at all to remain charged.

What did I bet and on what?
Are you the fool that thinks that I want solar and wind energy exclusively?

Too bad there are f150s on the road in the US than either of those cars

How often do you anticipating taking your Chevy Bolt camping? And how many cars do you own? Do you also plan to tow a camper with your Bolt or take it off roading?
Charge it at the public charging stations (up to 100 miles or charge in 30 minutes) or a overnight at your hotels along the way if long distance travel must happen in your commuter car.
You can use this thing as a commuter car. But the new Cybertruck or Hummer EV would be better for camping. They charge faster and can be taken to campsites more easily. And fit more gear.

I'm sure there will be an EV in my future, but this isn't it.
Posted on 2/16/21 at 11:08 am to goofball
I would definitely consider one. I like the idea of having an EV, but always will have a regular old gas burning machine as backup, at least.

Most families have 2 cars. This one is cheaper than the average car price in the US and can run 250+ miles per charge. It’s an ideal commuter car for people that don’t WFH.
But because EV’s are politicized by the right, a lot of you would rather commute in an F-150, which will break down more often and cost far more to own.

This vehicle is great for urbanites though.
???
Where are they going to put the charging station? Most urbanites I know already struggle for premium parking whether that be on the street or paid lots. Even if you’re fortunate to have a narrow drive & small garage those charging stations will immediately be a “hot” commodity. They’ll be the new catalytic converter and being stolen & flipped unless you bolt them to a wall or floor.

Yep. Until I can plug in an electric vehicle and charge at the same rate I’m not buying. I’m not spending the night at a Pilot Truck Stop every 250 miles.

The Bolt would make a shitty big rig. It’s a commuter car.

No. But you did bet the electricity works in San Diego and San Fran in response to me asking about the rolling blackouts in California
Rolling blackouts say otherwise.
So, you gonna be a gentleman and hold up to your bet, or you gonna be a little bitch and weasel your way out?
