You can charge these at home while you sleep though. And most people aren't going to need a full charge every night. as their commute and daily driving needs are far less than 250 miles per day.

It's a decent solution for urban/suburban areas where you want to avoid using gasoline on your commute. Some people do.

Not bad really. Certainly better than my iPhone, which seems to lose a shite load of charging capacity after about a year.

It doesn't cost $5k to replace an iPhone though.

Electric is dead in the water until you can get a near full charge in 10 min or less

Until something happens and you can’t.

Or what about people traveling out of state or on road trips? I imagine quite the line through Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama as the weekly Texas convoys make their way to the Florida beaches stopping every 200 miles to charge for 30 min.

Do EV advocates realize where these batteries end up when they wear out?

Until batteries can be charged in the time it takes to fill up a gas tank these cars will never be viable alternates.

In fairness to them - does your car refuel in your garage while you sleep?
How would this work out right now for the millions of people with no electricity and rolling blackouts? Those people are using their gas powered vehicles to charge their phones and stay warm. What would they be doing with an EV? I’ll wait.

Cost of the latest iPhone is usually $1000+, but you can replace the battery on them for much less. Although IMO you shouldn't have to. An iPhone battery's charge capacity shouldn't collapse after a year like they do.

For a car, why would you replace a battery that's only degraded by 3-5% after 100,000 miles? Most people with Teslas or Bolts don't even touch them until double that mileage. And when they do, they replace only 1-2 cells at at time. Unlike iPhones, these things are not left on 24-7.

In a gas car, you'd have replaced the transmission and a lot of other parts by 200,000 miles. This car doesn't have a transmission and features a very simple design that's proven to be very trouble-free. It's really just the same Chevrolet has been selling for about 8 years now, but with a new wrapper and a speedier charge. I'd be more concerned with the less proven Ultium batteries coming out this year than this stuff in the Bolt.

When you are freezing to death because your state has a crappy electrical grid, you won't really care about getting a few extra miles out of your EV.

Do you really think people want to wait in lines hours long to recharge for 30 minutes because they ran out of juice in the 9th ward?

Wait, 250 miles is considered long-range now and that range is with ideal conditions (ie no heat, AC or charging devices in your vehicle.)

I would be stranded if I decided to make a roundtrip kayak run to Sam Rayburn or Toledo Bend.

No. Until I can charge and carry spare batteries the same way I can get gas into my car in 5 minutes and carry a spare can with me in case of emergencies and evacuations then I won't drive an electric car. Maybe if I'm wealthy enough to afford one in addition to a gas vehicle. But no way I give up the flexibility of gas that's needed in times of emergency.

Is it an unwritten rule of EV’s that they must look like arse?

Outside of Porsche and maybe Tesla, everything on the market looks like shite. Charging practicality issues aside, I would wager one of the biggest drawbacks for buyers is the fear of feeling like a jabroni driving things like this

The drivers of the previous gen Bolt see higher mileage than what’s advertised on flat land. They can hypermile to 300+ miles if you want to avoid A/C and drive slowly.
