The Limited is the fancier soccer mom version, but it's still a 4Runner. It's not competing with a Volvo, Buick or Lincoln in interior design or appointments.

It's going to switch to the new Tundra platform in a couple of years. Will become similar to Sequioa.

Sounds like I need to save up 90 grand

Seriously?

Yes. It will be larger and more luxury oriented, not off road oriented.
4Runner is and will remain the off road-focused rig in the US. They are NOT moving it to the Highlander/Camry chassis. Big relief.

If you buying a Toyota and you get anything other than the trd off road package for the same or more money you aren't doing it right. Trd pro is only exception.

I'd like for you to meet the real off roader in Toyota's lineup. The Toyota 4Runner TRD Off Road
I’ll be that guy.
4Runners are great. Loved mine. But for off-roading there are just as capable or more capable products built by Toyota. 4Runners are fully capable, but there are other options, it’s not a clear winner.
The GX460, underneath the ugly Lexus grill, is a full-time 4WD 4Runner with a 4.6L V8. LC Prado elsewhere.
The J200 has a huge off-road following, especially in the used market. But just because it’s damn expensive and luxurious, doesn’t make it incapable. All components and the frame are much beefier than the 4Runner or GX. Make a mistake off-road and bent steering components could leave you stranded; that just doesn’t happen with the J200. The J200 also has some additional handy features: split tailgate, 360-deg cameras, quadruple the roof load rating, more comfortable daily driver.
eta: value-wise, I’d rank them: GX, 4Runner, LC.
The price on 4Runners has gotten quite high with dealers adding “market adjustments” on top of sticker. Whereas Lexus will run incentives on the GX. We purchased a new GX a few years ago for $5k more than my 4Runner.

Meh, the LARGE majority will never use the TRD PRO as intended. Most are mall crawlers.

I added a well copied design for a drawer/kitchen setup that has worked pretty well. '18 Off Road Premium.

Have you heard anything on the GX?

This board never ceases to amaze me. I am often left wondering how many "man vehicles" actually exist. I'd bet it's less than 5

The new Nissan 3.8L V6 is probably the best all around for a truck.
The nissan VQ/VK engines may be the most impressive series of engines in the last 30 years.
They are used in everything from fork lifts to luxury cars. And every rendition is one of the top performers in its class.
Unfortunately, because of poor component choices for the radiators and Jatco making one of the best non cvt transmissions (and the worst cvt transmission) the brand is dying.
I have a spare engine and trans for my FAlpha platform on hand. It'll likely go in at 350k miles. At 235k miles, it gets run to red line a few times a day and gets 40k miles a year. It just keeps on trucking.

Yep, on my 5th one now... started with and still my favorite red 1988, currently have a 2015. Nothing bad to say other then my first 2 were 4 wheel dr which I rarely used but would double any work cost. Think all had over 200k miles when I traded in. Would love to purchase another 1985-1988 one if you come across or have one to sell let me know.

I thought they fixed this in 2010 or so? Hopefully not the same mistake with the new 3.8L V6.

Nissan made their bed with that one. They've known for years that the CVT they have been using is a complete POS and they still use the damn thing. Even if it lasts (it doesn't), it ruined the sporty character of a lot of Nissan cars - like the Maxima, Altima SE V6, etc.
The Maxima only having front wheel drive and a CVT is absolutely infuriating. That used to be such a cool car.

It's definitely in my top 5. I think they are better than competing engines from Toyota. As you mentioned, they get a bad reputation because of Nissan's recent failures (CVTs, bad designs, piss poor build quality, weird product decisions, delayed redesigns, etc.)
Why the hell did they cancel the Xterra? The second gen Xterras actually had some build quality (the first gens didn't), they were pretty popular. Then they just pulled the plug around the time they neutered the Pathfinder.

They did.
But their shitty choice lead to the mass failure of one of the most reliable transmissions ever built
Jatco and Aisin make equally good auto transmissions. One has a reputation for failure because of a shitty radiator design.

Yes. In that market, the LX is not doing as well as it should. Cars like the Range Rover, Escalade, Denali, and Navigator are completely out classing it.
