In High School, my brother drove a Datsun 810 wagon. I freaking loved that thing. I think it was a '78 model. Like the one in the picture, his had the fake wood paneling...it was awesome.

The first car, and loan, I ever bought and paid off was for the 1983 version. Looks almost exactly like that one. Also loved the 1992 Black Maxima shown later in this thread, owned one of those a few years later.

Fun fact about the one in the OP... there was a British lady voice that would tell you when your door was open or lights left on.

The car I was given by my employer when I first moved here was a 1980 Datsun 810 coupe just like this one:

The owner of the company I came to work for had won it making a hole in one in a golf tournament. Wasn’t a bad car really. And it was free to my boss and me.

Nissan used to make good products. I had two of their trucks.

My 1st car was the datsun 280z 2+2.

It was a death trap with the inline 6 + turbo.

Wrecked it like 4 or 5 times.

Short rear-end, long front-end with that power was a problem.

Nissan should make the Altima the mainstream sedan for commuters, and reposition the Maxima as the sports sedan for enthusiasts: drop the weight and size, make it rear wheel drive, make a 6 speed available (or a 9 speed automatic for those who want it), increase the rigidity, upgrade the suspension, etc. Keep it a sedan, but give it some Z treatment. It couldn’t possibly sell any worse than it is currently.

Nissan’s big mistake was keeping the Maxima as the “flagship” in size as the Altima grew bigger and bigger. As a result, it became fat, boring, and God that awful CVT…

Had a 78 280z with a Chevy 406ci in it. Stupid fast car, and surprisingly predictable to drive once you got used to the power to weight ratio. Should’ve never sold that car. Biggest problem with all of the old Datsun/Nissans was they were way over engineered, but were very prone to rust. Not sure if it was due to poor prep before paint, or just shitty materials to begin with.

Those old Datsun trucks are one of my favorite vehicles. I wish I had one now.

These early 90s Maximas were atop the most stolen vehicles lists for years.

The infinity g series filled that gap. G37 coupe and credit card and you had a pretty good sleeper sporty car.

1992 Maxima SE was the awesome.

Fun fact: There was actually a DOHC V6 engine available in that generation with a manual transmission attached. It was a monster.

My mom had a white one just like the OP with blue interior.

“Key is in the ignition”

I think she drove it to close to 200k.
Preteen/teen achenator could change the oil in that car in about 10 mins

100%

Those retro cars are all back in style. I see some crazy looking 80's Toyota Sedan running around the screets.

I came really close to buying one of those when they came out. Bought a Volvo 740 instead. I was an IDIOT. . . .

I always wanted a 280 ZX for a weekend cruising vehicle.

Had a friend who really tricked his engine out. They were cool cars and fun to drive.
