Would you buy a (renovated) house that flooded in 2016?

Thinking about buying a house that was flooded in 2016.

It's since been repaired, but we would still want to put money into it to make it better.

Would you?

Yep

Do it.

Get flood insurance.

Enjoy.

Is it in a flood zone or has it flooded before?

I'm guessing you mean baton rouge so I'd say no because that place sucks.

I’d pay for it to be inspected for mold

That’s a generous offer!
The OP should take you up on it.

No, it never flooded before 2016. It's in flood zone AE, a special flood hazard area, according to the LSU Ag center website.

Sure, but of course it would depend on pricing, how much I would have to spend to fix it up, etc.

You’ll get the “that’s what insurance is for” and to have it inspected. While all of that is true I personally wouldn’t risk it happening again. Sure, you’ll be covered if insured but the hassle of getting it repaired and replacing all my shite isn’t something I ever want to go through.

I'd get a quote for flood insurance since it will be required just so you know what it's going to cost. Otherwise I wouldn't worry much about it.

No, absolutely no, unless the house was raised well above flood level of the most recent flood

the house has flooded once, once it floods 3 times you go into High Rish Flood Insurance rates, think about that, who will buy your home, no one

I would not and also think about whether you may want to sell it in the future.

No. Even though it's been cleaned, chances are there is still mold in that sucker.

Mine flooded. Listed it for sale Friday morning. Signed a contract Saturday morning.

Chances are that it’ll never happen again. I received 15 inches of water. Flood insurance paid for all repairs and I was back in my house in 3 months. Got a cheap remodel out of it. I don’t know if I would buy one that flooded in both ‘83 and ‘16 but I would definitely consider the ones that only received a ft or 2 or less in 2016. I’m buying property that flooded and is in a flood zone. Just going to build up high.
