Yes, we hate you, but that’s no cause for an overly wordy title.

Yep, I would do it.

Why someone would want a more "challenging"job is a mystery to me. What does that even mean?

You have to be there 8 hours a day either way. I lose my mind if I'm not stimulated, I'd rather have shite to do than have to act like I do when I'm working b

Due to CV and immunity issues (cancer survivor) a friend has been working from home since Feb 1, 2020. He is a year away from retirement so he and his wife moved to Northern Arizona from Rhode Island. He still has to fly the same but connections not as direct since most is to Europe or Tennessee.

Labor Relations is not HR. I have my JD and am currently in the legal department at my current job. Will also be in the legal department in the new one.
HR sucks

Who the frick is offering you a job if you are coming here for recognition?

20% increase in pay from by current base salary.
2. Fully remote position so would be able to move wherever we wish.
Those two pros outweigh all of your cons listed considerably imo.
I'd take it without hesitation.

I came with a quesiton. Thank you for all the helpful responses! I am accepting it

Yes, and in a small company there is often extremely limited ability to move up.
Showing you care about stuff outside your immediate bubble has paid huge dividends because of the exact thing you mention… most other ppl dont.
I do understand your POV on it though. I just choose to deal with it to get to where I want to be. In my own life experiences, no amount of conscientiousness was getting me anywhere in the “smaller” companies. Of course thats not going to always be the case.
In a large company there is always room to move up. Situations in smaller companies vary widely.

There's no way to get integrated into a professional job in 2 weeks and if the culture was that bad, it's on you for not being able to sniff that out during an interview.
They basically presented a false picture.
I didn't try to get integrated. I knew two days in that I had fricked up in accepting the job. I consider it one of the major mistakes of my life.

I'm not fully understanding how the job is remote yet you have to travel up to 30%.
That kind of defeats the purpose of having remote work.

Not really. Just means that you don't have a physical office.

I made a jump after 30 months at a place I thought I had fit at. A year later I would have made the jump just for the opportunity. The 50% increase in salary and building a team is just lagniappe. I have a better fit now than ever before. Mind you it isn’t perfect. Far from it. It may possibly never be.
Also turns out the place I thought I had fit was not what I thought it was.
Sometimes in life a groove can turn into a rut without us ever even knowing. It happens gradually.
Don’t be afraid to be bold. But own your decisions. No one will be held accountable for them but you.
Take a look at what you’ll gain..and what you’ll lose. Does the loss outweigh the potential for gain? Or Vice versa?
Break it down. Especially the fit part. What does that mean to you and why professionally? What do you know about the components that make up what you feel are a good fit where you are? Do you know what those will be or approximate where you may go?
Just pro and con this all out. But don’t be afraid to be bold. If this is the time, jump. If it’s not…or it isn’t the last opportunity, don’t be afraid to stick around where you are.
Heck…maybe even use the written offer as a means to counter or help you negotiate with your current gig to redefine your worth to be more in line with what the marketplace defined it for you as just now.
Just some food for thought,

You’ve never hated a commute but enjoyed the company once you arrived? This was me at my last job. Traffic and just 30 mins of driving got old but my coworkers were fun as shite. I work from home now and it’s better but make sure to socialize every now and then.
Posted on 1/2/22 at 3:25 pm to Darth Brian Kelly
I wouldn’t worry about the travel too much. Working from home you will need to get away once in awhile. Plus you will probably be able to get some airline, hotel points to take your old lady away for a weekend once in awhile.
Posted on 1/2/22 at 3:36 pm to Darth Brian Kelly
On paper, it sounds like a big step up.
You'll probably kick yourself if you don't take the new gig, assuming your wife can handle your travel.
Do it.

20% isn’t is insignificant but are we talking about a current base of 40k or 200k? Where you are on the base spectrum may influence this significantly.
