Hell no. TIME-D tax Roemer passed was pissed away on stupid crap including salaries for the DOTD shovel-leaners and not spent on roads. Same thing will happen with this retard in the mansion!

In Texas, we have nice roads and cheap gas.

i saw this yesterday. If 17cents meant perfect roads....a new miss bridge....improved interstate system....and metropolitan type public transit then yes I would be for it.
Unfortunately all it will do is fix some potholes here and there and thats it. This money will mostly go towards balancing the budget. Not improvements to the road infrastructure. So no I will not be pleased if this gets passed.

A guarantee that the following projects would be COMPLETED in the next 5 years:
New Mississippi River bridge near Plaquamine
There is no way that can happen. The construction alone is easily over 4 years of work and design hasn't started yet, let alone the permitting and land acquisition.

That is a democrat excuse. While what your saying may or may not be true, that still doesn't mean that they need to do it.

No you don't, your roads are no better than Louisiana. I am tired of hearing this damn lie.

Who knew that dedicated money going to the State Police retirement fund was going to "roads and bridges"??

This will never pass the public vote when the supporters have come out and stressed how much money will go to Baton Rouge.

It amazes me that people still fall for dedicated funds.

DFW is constantly widening and repaving roads all over. The toll roads are pristine, outside of Dallas north which is being widened and repaired. I work all over east Texas and even roads in the sticks are nicer than what we had in Louisiana. It's not a lie.

The department of transportation is completely self funded by the existing gas tax. No money comes from the general fund. There is no way for the legislature to take away money they don't give.

No
I'd want the lions share of taxes we pay now to go to roads and bridges before we gave the same people more money to burn through.
Has this administration shown any fiscal discipline? Are we concentrating the revenues we currently have on basic services? Or are we still funding pork Barrell projects? Are they still sponsoring large corporate welfare programs with little oversight?
We just raised sales tax to record levels, and that wasn't enough. Don't give them more before they show some discipline.

Something needs to be done. The gas tax has not been increased or adjusted for inflation since the 1980s. The cost just to maintain what we have has increased significantly since the 1980s, much less the cost to build anything new. If nothing is done, the traffic situation will get worse because the state won't be able to pay to maintain what's already in place.
The only tax we pay that goes to roads is the gas tax and that amounts to less than $150 per year in state taxes.

Let's see a clear and transparent plan laid out on what improvements will be made and how the money will be spent. Give us a 2-4-6yr plans. Then i'd consider a raise. Don't think I'd be on board for 17cents though. Maybe 10 if the right plan is in place.

Absolutely I would vote for the tax if I still lived in BR. However they have tried this before and it always gets voted down. Typical BR. Bitch about infrastructure, traffic, schools etc, but vote down a a tax to fix said problems every time. How do people there expect for the place to improve without the taxpayers paying for it?
Posted on 3/17/17 at 8:28 am to Slippy
I would. But it probably will not pass until DOTD starts closing rural bridges and letting roads revert to the parishes.... which will happen without an increase for maintenance.
