The question: would the world be a better place if women still held the role they mostly held until the early 20th Century? Namely, primarily as wives and mothers who stay home to care for their family with no political involvement?

Thats basically what they were created for...to be the mans helper and someone for the man to have a relationship with...and reproduce.

It's really that simple....

If you did any research at all you'd realize that women weren't marginalized in many societies until around the time Christianity was founded.

I'm guessing I know exactly where you got your info from.

Yes.

Children should be raised by mothers, not by day care. The high standards of living which require a dual income household are a major issue these days. The women I know who have kids and still work do it because they have a $300k house and a Yukon LTZ and their husband has a 26' boat and a new ford diesel. You cant have all that and kids on a single $100k income

My mom stayed at home and raised us. We were by no means poor but definitely not rich either. Wouldn't have had it any other way.

You lost me at the political involvement part. I think a one income family whether that means the male or the female works and the other stays home can probably be pretty beneficial, but I don't think there would be a significant difference one way or the other.

Prior to WWII jobs paid more, children were better behaved, divorce was very rare and of course Americans were thinner because women were at home cooking dinner for their families instead of working.

WWII put women into the work force en masse and things have went downhill ever since.

This really isn't even debatable.

Jobs didn’t pay more: housing, healthcare, and education just cost substantially less.

No. Very few women on my team. 100% of my personnel issues are due to men.

the caveat to this being that ideally all women are marriage material? if so, some of you gentleman are going to have to start lowering your standards, yes? what do you propose happens to the OT2's? we just start auctioning women off to the highest bidder?

all of you who say women should stay home... do you have daughters? if so, are you teaching them that they should get an education and be independent? that they should have a career and be able to support themselves? then once they get married and have children will you expect them to give up said career? if you take years off to raise your children it will be almost impossible to re-enter the workforce at anywhere near the salary you were making when you quit. this is why women who are intelligent and educated are putting their children in daycare. they make too much money to stay home and do not want to have a career setback that will cost them hundreds of thousands of dollars over those 4 years that their children will be at home all day.

My wife works. I also have a daughter who wants to be a paleontologist when she grows up and I encourage it to the fullest.

That doesn’t mean I can’t admit that a household with 2 working parents isn’t optimal in raising children.

My wife made homemaking her career. Our kids did great in school and are well rounded individuals. Later in life people looked down on people who made the choice to be a stay at home mother. As far as being her husband, I supported her decision 100% And that is now a rare thing and looked down upon. Being normal is now not normal.
