Would society be more orderly and peaceful if we had no criminal laws whatsoever?

Basically you could do whatever you wanted without penalty. The idea is that with retribution by others also carrying no penalties, society would become orderly and peaceful.

Thoughts?

Everyone should carry a handgun and society could police itself.

Said victim's family could then take you and your family out. See how that works?

Being that we are humans this in no way shape or form could work. Laws keep order in society and have done so since the dawn of man. Imagine someone being upset that they got cut off in traffic and blasting the other driver with a gun. I've seen to many nuts out there to know that the law is the only thing keeping them in line. Hell even with laws we still have a crime problem.

No.

Why do you think laws were created?

Hell no.

Without laws and an apparatus to administer justice, society would just break down into an animalistic might-makes-right society. Humans would factionalize into tribes for the purposes of safety and self-preservation, and those tribes would most likely be at constant war with each other over resources.

Yeah, the might-makes-right dynamic will - to some extent - always exist no matter the system, but doing away with laws would just make it that much worse.

Society already tried it your way thousands of years ago by default. They decided that laws were a better strategy. And what do you know? Look at how much scientific, economic, and social progress humanity has made during that time.

Nah, rape wouldn't go away. Look at midevil times, rape happened all the time. Rape trials would be a pastime however, as we would need more funding for the coroners office instead of the prison system.

Uhhh...I guess.

So you're assuming that victims of crimes will 1) have personal knowledge of the offender and 2) be able to positively identify them?

How would said victim's family "take out" the offender if the offender, say, wears a ski mask during the rape, and the victim has no clue who they are? Pray tell, are there public agencies to analyze rape kits in your lawless society? Or would the victim just have to resort to the private sector if they want retribution?

I think that no laws, no lawyers, no gov't, no cops, no walls, no flags, etc. is a great idea.

The first thing I would do is find one of those girls that Larry Leo posts and rape that bitch for at least a week.
