OP - Do you think a chronic marijuana smoker would know the difference if you substituted parsley for his high grade kind bud ?
Hemp would've been a much more accurate comparison to non-alcoholic beer.

Have to disagree, beer tastes better thank cokes, lemonade, tea....and for some period of time a person may want to stay away from alcohol. Non-alcoholic beer isn’t as good as the real deal but sometimes is the best option.

Why is everyone downvoting the OP? Y’all don’t think some people could be tricked into thinking they were buzzed with placebo beer?

I guess, maybe a group of freshmen in high school or something stupid. Not adults that think they need to fake being drunk for some weird reason

I had an older friend (in his mid-30's, for context I'm in my mid-20's) a couple of years ago who would down non-alcoholic beers in any social setting like they were Natty's at a fraternity party.
He would never talk about why. Must've been a serious alcoholic in an earlier life.

Drinking non-alcoholic beer is strongly discouraged by treatment programs and facilities because it's a step in the direction of drinking behavior. There is very much a mental aspect involved of stopping drinking if you're a alcoholic or even a 'problem drinker."
That being said, it's clearly obvious you've never had acute alcohol withdrawals. I honestly wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. Alcohol is absorbed and affects every cell in your body, therefore when you stop, every cell in your body is screaming for alcohol to go back to normal. Your entire body shakes, itches, audibly hallucinations, etc. Blood pressure surges. Your muscles clench tight then release time and time again. Your toes curl but not in a good way.
If you've reached that point, even regular beer probably isn't going to cut it. Straight vodka, homie!

I'm not sure how to answer the original questions. But I'll say this: I've been dabbling in N/A beers over the last few months as a compliment to regular beer. And don't get me wrong, there are a lot of bad N/A beers out there that will never fool anyone into thinking they are drinking a beer. But there are also an increasing number of pretty darn good tasting N/A beers.
I'll start with the easy to find one: Heineken 0.0. This N/A beer is better tasting than regular Heineken (not that this is some huge accomplishment).
I love the smell and taste of hops, so my mission was to find some sort of N/A IPA that would give me that, but that I could have a few on a Tuesday night without wrecking my Wednesday. After trying many, I've settled on the following as good options for someone looking for the taste of a hoppy beer without the alcohol:
Gruvi IPA - by far the best tasting N/A IPA in my opinion. It smells like an IPA with the Citra and Galaxy hops standing out. And the taste is the closest to a regular beer of all the N/A beers I've tried.
Partake Pale Ale - this is a pale ale that I find is similar to Sierra Nevada Pale Ale. It's a little malty and a little hoppy, but well balanced. I cannot recommend the Partake IPA, because it is just bitter for the sake of being bitter, and just unenjoyable. Their Blonde Ale is pretty solid, and their stout is not half bad, especially if you add a couple drops of vanilla extract to it.
Athletic Brewing - probably the biggest name in "craft" N/A beer, they sponsor a lot of athletes in the endurance sports genre. I want to like their beers, but they all have that N/A beer taste, so it just doesn't work for me.
At the end of the day, I don't suggest trying to give an alcoholic an N/A beer to fool them into thinking they are drinking beer. But if you're looking to get a beer-like beverage while maintaining a healthier lifestyle, some of the N/A beers will do the trick/satisfy the urge.

Most bad alcoholics I've known drank vodka for some reason.

I promise you could take the alcohol out of Fred’s Electric Lemonade and not much would change.
