Lloyd Fredenhall, who presided over the Kasserine Pass disaster, has a strong case.

Yes, he ducked up. I’m not even saying he was a good general. But everything I’ve ever read about him has been mediocre/him being crazy. Burnside was much much worse in my opinion. And honestly, there’s so many bad generals in our history that just aren’t as commonly known. Hell, the confederate generals in the western front were like watching a 3 stooges sketch

His major mistake was waiting once he knew the marching orders. Otherwise he was good at organizing the army, upon which it built further success.

George Armstrong Custer.

He finished last in his West Point class and he named his daughter Yellow Bird Custer.

I see you're getting some push back but I appreciate your response.

I named him because of his level of influence and the impact of his decisions but I understand that others were more tactically or operationally inept.

Really, McClellan? He isn’t even in the bottom half of bad general. He made a lot of bad mistakes but he also did a whole lot of good too

McClellan is most certainly one of the worst generals in US history.

Lol, I just saw something on the LBH. Custer definitely fricked up. Also, he was a colonel.

I Think, even though he wasn’t a general on the battlefield during the Civil War, the honor of the worst goes to Jefferson Davis. Had anyone with half a good military mind been President of the CSA, the war would have looked much different. Grant criticized Davis’ ineptness in his memoirs and Davis made a ton of puzzling choices with his generals and their objectives.

Pretty sure he was breveted.

quote:

brevet (/br?'v?t/ (About this soundlisten) or /'br?v?t/ (About this soundlisten))[1] was a warrant giving a commissioned officer a higher rank title as a reward for gallantry or meritorious conduct but without conferring the authority, precedence, or pay of real rank.[2]

I know this was mainly directed at one person but that statement really gets under my skin. I am a liberal and earned a CIB.

Don't take it literally. It was an ironic jab at the poster.
