World War 2 still boggles my mind

I've been lately consuming a lot of literature and media about WW2. The technological innovations, battle strategies, and the incalculable carnage inflicted on so many people is so hard to completely comprehend. It's something so massive of an event that our economy and history we are through living now is all catagorized as "Post-War".
I'm not new to this subject either. I just think we, as a society, take for granted that such a big historical milestone took place in living memory and we have interacted with people who witnessed this. I dunno just thinking about the scale of WW2 sometimes just makes me sitdown and say, "Holy shite this stuff actually happened. It's all real." Few corners of the world were left untouched by the war.
I know this post has the same stoner level of insight of, "Whoa! Do you ever think, like, about how airplanes work man?". Am I crazy or just overthinking this idea?

My grandfather was a master gunnery sergeant in WW2 and my grandmother was the first woman to work for the Louisiana state police. They lived during quite a time.
I honestly believe we will soon see the same hardships and losses our grandparents saw in WW2. The world is a tinderbox just waiting for a spark.

If it ever comes out that the PRC engineered the virus and paid off a large portion of the world's politicians, we will see a war that could end the world

My paw paw fought in WWII and just died a few years ago in his late 90s. His mind was as sharp as a tack until the last 2-3 years of his life too.

What’s crazy to me is how certain worldwide events of today, are a result of WWII. China wanting to invade Taiwan, the whole Israeli/Palestinian conflict. It all goes back to this war.
Also just some of the decisions made by Nazi Germany and Imperial Japan. Everyone knows the Germans big blunders, but I just don’t understand why the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor, and dragged us into the war. Whenever they were invading China, they made sure to not fire or attack any territories in China, that were owned by GB, France, or the US. They didn’t want to attack them and start a war with the west. Then they end up attacking Pearl Harbor and dragging us into the war, which ends up leading to their defeat.

Good point. This was back when people got a lot of their news from newspapers. Every day, the headlines would remind people of the sacrifices being made by our military overseas. I’m not sure how people would react now if they frequently seeing battle results with casualties in the 1,000s.

It wasn’t easy for sure. There was a time that support for the war was waning in the US.
Life magazine actually put a picture of dead Americans on its cover for the first time to help reignite support.

I think about this with how we built the interstate system. And now how it’s impossible to build even one mile of new interstate.
