Ski mountaineer Andrzej Bargiel becomes the first person to climb Mount Everest and ski back to Everest Base Camp without supplementary oxygen. After nearly 16 hours climbing in the high altitude “death zone” (above 8,000m where oxygen levels are dangerously low), Bargiel clipped into his skis on the summit of the tallest mountain on earth and started his descent via the South Col Route. He reached Camp II that night and rested - the summit ridge and Hillary Step had taken longer than planned, meaning darkness made it dangerous and difficult to navigate further that day. The next morning, he skied through the treacherous Khumbu Icefall - guided by a drone flown by his brother, Bartek - before safely arriving at Base Camp to become the first person to ascend and descend Mount Everest on skis with no supplementary oxygen.

A lil impressive. I tip my hat to him.

Related, I don't think I've ever seen camera angles like this on Everest. I was almost more amazed by those than the actual act of skiing.

I agree. Those big wide angle high def shots are amazing and really let you see the scale.

Heard a guy on the SRS podcast receently that had been to peak of the highest range on every continent and he said the trip down is by far more dangerous than the trip up.

Thought Everest had all kind of shite on the summit - flags, monuments etc?

Him taking that small tumble on the way down makes me agree

This was impressive, no doubt, but Jim Morrison (back from the dead) completing the first descent of the North Face of Everest via the Hornbein Couloir is more impressive to me:

The lack of supplemental oxygen is crazy, but the South Col route is far less complex.

Still, both crazy ski accomplishments.

I'm pretty sure that's the same route my dad walked to school.

Did he just leave all his trash up there like everyone else before hitting the slopes?
