Anyone here worked in Dubai? Have a chance to work a project there for 6 months. Just looking for experiences over there.

It's hot. Ramadan is inconvenient for westerners. The locals don't like you, but Dubai is mostly tourists/expats.

Good friend of mine just moved there a few weeks ago for a sales position with his current company. By the look of his snapchat, it's fricking AWESOME. I would pack my bags tonight if I had the opportunity.

Wow. Even the conditions for line cooks are better there than in the US.
I think a large portion of Dubai caters (no pun) to Westerners, i.e. liquor is readily available.

It's becoming a popular hangout with terrorists.

Ive been to dubai and it was awesome. There is virtually no crime and everyone is rich.

Did a stopover for a few days during my Honeymoon. Three days was enough for me.

Russian Whores everywhere, guy's holding hands, blow torch hot in the summer, outrageously expensive, and don't go into debt. Do anything off key and you'll end up in the klink.

I have. I hated it. Make sure you watch yourself and seriously do not go into debt. Even though it's a little more relaxed, it is best that you do not look at women and do not ask men about women in their families.
I have had to give entire training sessions to folks in our org about how to handle yourself in the middle east. People can get into trouble fairly quickly there.

Why does everyone keep saying do not go into debt?

Govt and Creditors will seize all your assets. With anything in Dubai, You're guilty, whether you are or not. They will seize your passport and restrict from leaving the country, you will go to jail... no questions asked. You essentially become persona non grata. Always, always, always have an escape plan.Know where the Swiss and US consulates are located. If you screw up don't wait around, drive to the airport , leave everything behind and the hell out of Dodge.

I've been to Dubai after visiting family in the Middle East. My cousin works there. Dubai is largely a mirage for working stiffs. They lure people there and perform a bait n switch with salaries, relying on people getting stuck with few other options or are young enough to deal with it in exchange for new experiences. It's highly unlikely that you'll get wealthy working there or that you'll have a nice place with a short commute if staying longer than a year.
