Airbus, which has been showing off its new A220 jetliner on an international tour, announced Monday that work has begun on the first of the jets to be built in Alabama. The company is still in the process of building a new Final Assembly Line (FAL) for the A220 at its Mobile campus. According to information released by Airbus, the first few made-in-America A220s will be built "within some current A320 family buildings and newly built support hangers," by a team of workers freshly back from training in Mirabel, Canada, site of another A220 assembly line.

The first Mobile-built jet is an A220-300 ordered by Delta Air Lines. It is to be delivered in the third quarter of 2020. From there, Airbus aims to ramp up production considerably: “By the middle of next decade, the [Mobile] facility will produce between 40 and 50 aircraft per year,” the company projects. “The expansion of our commercial aircraft production in Mobile to a second product line — with 400 additional jobs to support it — further solidifies Airbus’ standing as a truly global aircraft manufacturer, and confirms without a doubt that Airbus is an important part of America’s manufacturing landscape,” said Airbus Americas Chairman & CEO C. Jeffrey Knittel. “With Mobile, and our production network in Asia, Canada and Europe, we have strategically created a worldwide industrial base to better serve our customers.”

Nice, like the 2-3 config. Guaranteed a window or aisle on left with no fatty in middle

frick airbus
they get a ton of $$$ and political help by euro countries, and when US government tries to help Boeing in any way, they file complaints with that stupid world org, who always sides with euros. It's a fricking joke.

America 1 Canada 0
That’s a Canadian Bombardier C-series that Airbus bought and changed it’s name to the A220.
Fricking Alabama “stole” their manufacturing that the Canadians spent years and millions of man hours on. #MAGA

Airbus planes don’t have MCAS that make you fall from the skies. Airbus planes also have better designs on them, and are designed to be more comfortable. For example, The 737 is still a design from the 1960s. Boeing builds their planes to fit as many people as they can. They intentionally make their cabin width 0.5 more so if it’s a 777 for example, the Boeing can hold 9.5 seats while the A330 can only do 8. Same thing on the 787 vs A350. A 787’s seat width is less than a fricking commuter jet.

It's nice that Delta will be able to enrage travelers in U.S.-built aircraft.

How much R&D money has Boeing received from the federal government? All of that work in composites that went into the 787 and 777X? That technology was developed and proven for defense projects funded by the US government.
You don't think Embraer gets subsidies from the Brazilian government?
Or Bombardier which went to court over subsidies from the Quebecois government.
It doesn't matter which manufacturer brands the aircraft, the components are made all over the world. No aircraft is "American" or "European". Rolls Royce, Snecma, Pratt, and GE all make engines. Critical components manufactured by Kawasaki Heavy Industries, BAE Aerospace, etc.

Are we limiting this to domestic, because 777tiger says it's some of the far Eastern airlines that bring the heat.
