Won tickets to a concert and meet/greet

Back on Halloween day (not relevant), I won tickets to a concert and the meet & greet in New Orleans, with the bands “1975” and “Catfish & the Bottlemen”. I had never heard of them but did recognize a few of their songs.
I couldn’t make it (and really didn’t care to go), so I gave the tickets to my friend’s college age son.
He gets to the meet/greet, and before entering the room where the bands were, he was met by their manager. He was a total prick. He told them they had to put away their cell phones, and if they took them out, they would be banned from the concert. He also told them the band will not sign any autographs.
My friend’s son said the bands were cool as shite, but were handcuffed because the manager was there the entire time. They were allow to take pictures with the band, but the manager had to take the photo and ok the photo. He would take a few and delete the ones he didn’t like.
The kid said he had an awesome time, the bands were cool as shite, but the manager was acting like the bands were the next Beatles and Rolling Stones.
He even said the band was kind of making fun of the manager.
Is this normal for managers or was he just a prick?

I have no idea but I know a really fine trampy woman that won backstage passes and ended up fricking one of the Durans from Duran Duran.
This was 20 years ago, but it's all I have to offer.

I’m guessing but I thing all but the biggest name bands, the manager acts as the publicist as well.

Thats kinda what they do - rock acts arent exactly selling out arenas anymore like it used to, so they've gotta scratch out every penny they can when they play shows at places like the HoB or Southport.

She’d be a lot cooler if it was 30 years ago.

Closer to 35. That is last of the original lineup.

Normal behavior for a band manager as far as the phones and photos. A small time manager is going to act like a big time manager because that’s how you get from small time to big time.
I was at one of these back stage deals recently with a girl that was fired up to meet the singer (Dierks Bentley). They lined us up like cattle and were on the way to pissing me off with the brusque treatment but I put up with it for her sake. They were legit surprised when I skipped the photo session thing and just stood to the side to let her get her snaps. Apparently people really get into that shite. Long story, Oweo style, to say that it’s not like the old days where they just let you shoot the shite and drink beer with the band. It’s all highly regimented.

I went to that concert. It was ok but fricking annoying.
Before the encore they made a big deal of playing this Orwellian doom and gloom video about climate change narrated by that stupid little girl. fricking pathetic.

Most managers try to be pricks.
I was at a Kenny Chesney concert a while back and his manager was no where to be found most of the night. There were rules about where we could stand when Kenny played but that was about it.
I ended up pretty drunk with Kenny’s dad and was able to do what ever I wanted.

You are making fine decisions. Have you ever thought about a career as a " life coach" ??

If you are a band it can be a great thing to have a manager willing to be the bad guy.

Meet/greets are uncomfortable. They don't really wanna be there and I was very uncomfortable.
