Can’t help with the mom/ sister issue...and not sure why a grown man would listen to that shite. But the best advice I could give for SO, just stick with the Mel Gibson approach....and tell her (or him in your case) to shut up and blow you.

What badgers me like no other is the fact if I--this has been like this since I was young-complain about anything (which i don't out of conviction because it is stupid) a woman comes unglued.

Any hint you are pissed over something rightfully so, they come unglued.

If you are sick with an autoimmune disease? Unglued.

Don't feel like going to ballgame because you are on the toilet all day, unglued. Unglued unglued unglued.

Yet, they are experts at playing the violin of poor me and my sick SO. I love him so much. He goes through so much blah blah to look like a quality and outstanding person knowing that people realizing theh are POS will hurt their social standings.
