Terrible shame but, $100 says dude in WC was riding in the road, not where he should be.
This article has more on it

Reports indicate Doherty was traveling west in the eastbound lane on Cloyd Boulevard in his motorized wheelchair, and Carroll was going east. Doherty was flown from the scene to Huntsville Hospital where he died.
Her lawyer is a pretty sketchy guy when it comes to lawyers.

Now, I'm certainly no expert, but that seems like a dangerous thing to do. Maybe a little bit his fault.

I hope she goes to jail for the rest of her life if she was distracted or drunk or on drugs.

Yeah she shouldn't have drove off but if you're riding a wheeler chair at night on the highway you probably need to be taken out of the gene pool anyway.

Had this happen earlier this week driving home from work. On a 2 lane highway, no shoulder, heavy traffic in both directions. I look up to see a HUGE fat lady, I mean huge, on one of those motorized scooters, traveling in the road in the opposite direction of traffic, coming at me. She didn't give one frick. I wanted to just continue and ram her, but didn't want to frick up the front end of my truck. It would have been like hitting one of those African water buffaloes head on.

I'd voluntarily be arrested for hit and stay. Over and over.

Why?
Where this happened was on a narrow two lane road and in a curve.

On a wheelchair-related note, I once witnessed a guy in a motorized wheelchair atop the Causeway/Airline overpass (Metairie) trying to merge from the Airline ramp into southbound Causeway traffic. I have no idea how he got there, because I wouldn't think that a motorized wheelchair could have even made it up the ramp in the first place. But he was there, and causing quite a distraction.
You've got to admire someone with that much determination...but I think "determination" sometimes gets in the way of "common sense". People in wheelchairs need to realize that there are some things they should not be doing....whether they can, or not.

Honest question, do those have street legal lights? They can't be legal to ride on a road at night with one is it? I mean that would be like walking on a road or riding a bike on a road without a light right?

A woman surrendered to authorities Tuesday afternoon in connection with the Friday night hit-and-run fatality of a man on his motorized wheelchair who is remembered as a kind a good person.
