banks are required by law to report and large cash transactions to the IRS and police as suspected drug dealer.
i am sure she was flagged as drug dealer and they froze the account until they can verify what she is doing with the money.
yes that is right, its not to verify its her money but they need to know and approve of what she is using the money for before they unfreeze an account with suspicious activity.
ask your bank teller next time you are at the bank and they will confirm. they will refuse to say what amount triggers them to report it but they will confirm they will report suspicious activity

Might want to avoid any US banks then, because they've got quite a bit of authority over your account. A bank has the legal authority to freeze your account if they suspect you're involved in money laundering.
