It’s still on the book
quote:

The court will determine what type of restrictions that will be placed upon the offender’s license. Public possession does not include consumption or possession of an alcoholic beverage: For an established religious event or purpose, When a person under 21 is accompanied by his or her parent, spouse, or legal guardian who is 21 years or older, In a private residence, or When a person under 21 handles, dispenses, sells, or transports an alcoholic beverage during the course of lawful employment by a licensed retailer, wholesaler, or manufacturer.

It’s true in a lot of states but definitely not true in Virginia. My mom ordered me a beer at restaurant in alexanderia when I was 20 and we got thrown out. Pretty embarrassing, the waitress knew what was up when my mom order a glass of wine and a beer too. Instead of just saying he can’t have any alcohol or checking my id, they waited for me to take a sip and then came over to ask for my ID.

Wow, what a douche move. Hopefully you never gave that restaurant another dime.

Theres a good chance the family was acting within the law.

Most states allow drinks to be served to those over 18 with parents present and with their permission.

Ohio used to have a keg law for underage. Kids could drink their own personal keg beer, if it was at their house and parents purchased it. Parents did not need to be there for consumption

They, like the other 49 states, were forced to do this by the federal government or face losing federal highway money

Yeah, I remember that. I think Louisiana was one of the last states to raise the age to 21. Texas did it in '85 or something like that.

When I was a senior in high school in the late 80's, near Houston, we used to drive over to the Longhorn in Vinton because we could still drink there at 18.

Not sure when Louisiana finally raised the age limit.

What a fricking dumb bitch.

Probably doesn't even realize it's legal in most areas to drink under 21 if you're with your parents. It's entirely up to the restaurant though.
