Woman says she is happier than ever after fulfilling lifelong wish of becoming blind
I wouldn't want to see myself either if I were her.
quote:
“By the time I was six I remember that thinking about being blind made me feel comfortable,” she said.
Shuping says that when she was a teenager, she started wearing thick black sunglasses, and even got her first cane when she was 18.
By the age of 20, Shuping says she was fluent in braille.
“I was ‘blind-simming’, which is pretending to be blind, but the idea kept coming up in my head and by the time I was 21 it was a non-stop alarm that was going off,” she told Barcroft TV.
Her need to lose her sight increased as she got older, and by 2006, she claims she found a psychologist who was willing to help her.
Shuping says the psychologist put numbing eye drops into her eyes, and then a couple of drops of drain cleaner.
“It hurt, let me tell you. My eyes were screaming and I had some drain cleaner going down my cheek burning my skin,” she said. “But all I could think was ‘I am going blind, it is going to be okay.”

You think she had to pay extra for that?

Psychologist should lose his license.
eta: that should go without saying. Then there should be serious thought about criminal charges.

More proof psychology is a soft science at best, at worst a pure sham. This woman has a mental disorder.

Proof that if you're not already retarded enough you can buy more of it. What a dumbass.

We wouldn't have mental disorders if it weren't for psychology.

Wonder if she gets disability and Medicaid as a result of blinding herself?

Body Integrity Identity Disorder
Saw a really fascinating documentary once on this topic. Basically these people are perfectly normal, healthy people (well aside from mental health) who feel like a part of their bodies (usually a limb) is causing them discomfort, so they seek to have them removed.
This causes a great ethical debate in the medical world because most doctors aren't in the practice of removing perfectly good body parts.
So basically these people do crazy things, like tie off the limb until it dies and forces a doctor to cut it off.
One guy went to his neighbors woodchipper while it was running and stuck his leg in to mangle his foot so a doctor would cut it off.
Crazy stuff.
