The race thing was a problem because people made it a problem. Sure black people were happy to have a half black president elected, but blacks only make up 13% of the US population. Do you think he "catered" to black people? Black people didn't get him into office. Above everything else, he was a politician.
I am not sure what he did to make people feel like they were walking on eggshells for 8 years, but I am sure a lot of it was perception.

I am not saying Trump directly encouraged this woman to do this crazy shite.. And I don't think Trump is a racist, but he has a target audience and people interpret things different.
Just like a bunch of people thought Obama was a Muslim who wasn't born in the US, I think there are a bunch of people who feel like Trump is more extreme than he actually is and perception is reality so I think his actions can easily be interpreted to fit someone's crazy thinking.. And I am not saying this is the case with this woman, she just seems like an old crazy lady, but he doesn't do much to settle the dust.
