I know a girl who had this happen to her about 10 years ago. Spent a week in the hospital, fortunately she survived.
Always make sure your wives, girlfriends, daughters, etc wear a hat or tie their hair up securely if riding a go kart.

Reminds me of the story of that carnie a few years ago at a fair in Ohio. Was underneath the Ferris wheel oiling it and his long hair got caught in there. Raised him up over 50 feet before scalping him and dropping him on a fence cutting him in half.
