Because women will go to any lengths to cover up reality. Just look about in public at the grotesquely overweight women with makeup on. If you're that overweight what the hell difference does it make if you're wearing makeup? Because they truly believe a good cosmetic ensemble can cover up anything. Sadly there are enough men that will chase it reinforcing the belief.
