When the press found out the dude who killed Trevon Martin was named "George Zimmerman", they assumed he was a white guy and raised the racism flag to full mast. A day or two later, pictures of George were circulated and when appeared to be Latino, the racism card was now gone.
So to bring the racist card back into play, they called him a "white Hispanic".
