I’m not sure that humans do anything for these big fires. Those buckets of water they dropped from an air tank or do nothing these fires burn themselves out or they get lucky and get a little rain or the wind dies down

I wonder how wide spread the fires would get with out human intervention. Do you think it could engulf an entire state?
Thats a great question, this is the ot that i miss. Im sure in the west during dry seasons they wead spread across states. But im also wondering if there would be as many forest fires if we were there? I know we've brought several species of trees and bushes that didnt exist in southern California.

Generally correct. However, North American fire-maintained ecosystems are relatively recent...mostly evolved since last glacial retreat +- 10,000 years ago.

There would never be fires if not for humans

Eucalyptus trees are a big issue. They were imported from Australia because they are fast growing and drought tolerant, but the burn like a torch.

They need to import some koala bears now.

Park service on that one.
Can't do it on their own. Add to that a lot of enviro weenies are in the park service now.
We have definitely lost the momentum plus its a bitch to hunt out west. There are large areas where the deadfalls are so bad just walking it is a pain.

Today's LATimes has a good long article about how Paradise has had a history of huge fires around it (just in a hundred years or so), how they had planned exoduses but this came up too fast, how there are only four roads into or out of town and all four are through areas known to burn, and how they were starting to get their planning done.
What needs to be done is a discussion of rebuilding. the same discussion as barrier island seaside builders face.
The fire maps of northern CA are scarey when it comes to how many fires have already happened.

The wacky Governor of CA got on the TV this morning and blamed the entire fire on Global Warming and Pres Trump's policies. I couldn't believe he went there. He said that the droughts will continue across the US and become a threat to human life. All as I was driving through a torrential downpour in Baton Rouge.
aside from trying to politicize it, with the Trump policy talk, which i don't think he should have done, he's not exactly wrong....
