There’s a time and place for both of these though. Psychological warfare is real. It can be beneficial to have some braggarts around. A well known sniper in country will keep heads down. A well known team of spec ops same thing. There’s also certainly a time to have guys that stay quiet.

It's typically better to leave the opposition wondering. If you know X group of guys with the cool hair is messing up your day, you can track those guys, count them, quantify their abilities and so on.

If your buddies head explodes randomly and no one knows where it's originating, then it is originating from everywhere.

It's kind of like the movie Jaws if they showed you the shark in the first 5 minutes of the movie. Not quite the same movie, is it?

DEVGRU is legit and would've been just as successful with this raid as Delta was but they love to whore for attention.

They never miss a chance to tell you they're a Navy SEAL.

If it was DEVGRU for this raid, we'd have 3 books, 2 Fox News interview specials, and a movie by next week.

They're still badasses though and should be commended for their ballsy as hell service to America.

This was very different. The day Bin Laden was killed was damn near a Holiday. People celebrated, it was all over the news world wide.

I’m fairly certain a vast majority of Americans don’t know who this was that was killed nor that he even died.

That's because the vast majority of Americans are idiots. Getting KSM was FAR more important than Osama but they don't know about him either.

Because a book is a money grab by one individual. Bin Laden wasn't put down by one person. It was a team effort. Some of these guys understand, live and breathe team and some are lone wolves. The loners are hated because you can't execute a high level capture or kill mission without solid teamwork from top to bottom. That's what is wrong with a fricking book.

, I love how seriously some of you take this stuff. Special forces threads on here are largely full of shite. This one will be no different.

You know how to tell a guy is a SEAL? Just wait around a minute and he will tell you. You know how to slow down a SEAL beach assault? Put out some mirrors. They can’t pass one by without stopping to check themselves out. Then there is the talk of the SEAL unit line item in the budget for hair products.

Sounds like jealousy.

That time period was wild.

The fashion was so dorky, it even made Delta operators look like some guy from Office Space.

SgtMaj Vining. He was EOD in Vietnam before going Special Forces and Delta.

For a while, and perhaps even present day, in hostage rescue situations, Delta guys would identify themselves as Navy SEALs. That’s pretty slick IMO.

I agree with you about the “attention seeking behavior” and I have a theory about the SEAL Team 6 warrior that scored the kill shot on OBL. I bet his wife was in his ear saying “you killed America’s biggest enemy, you (we) should make money from this and be famous”.

Get it correct...

The proper term is "Fruit Salad".

There are a lot Spec Ops out there that just look like accountants who use their home gym regularly.

Vining's look was the inspiration for the glasses-wearing CIA case officer in Sicario.

A good friend of my dad was a MACVSOG 1-0 in Vietnam. Short guy, looks like an accountant. He has stories that are like scenes from a movie, that have been verified. Like rescuing POWs while hanging from a rope under a huey. Was on the cover of soldier of fortune for bounty hunting in Rhodesia
