For our purposes we refer to parishes north of the lake to the border and west to livingston the northshore.

Yeah the more I read these forecast discussions the more I realize how difficult it is to predict winter precip, especially when the conditions are only marginal. Being off by 1 or 2 degrees at any level in the atmosphere (not just the surface) can result in vastly different conditions. Throw in the timing of whether or not moisture + cold are in phase or a lack of moisture availability and evaporative cooling process and it seems to get really complex and sensitive to sight changes.

It doesn't differentiate freezing rain, sleet, or snow, so that snowfall map could include any of the three.

Ahh. I just know in one the the recent NWS Houston discussions they said they disregarded it.

So, what is all that and what it means?
Is Pointe Coupee in for ice?

I'm not sure the soundings support any kind of frozen accumulations and it's the NAM. Beyond what the NAM is showing, there might be a slight window of opportunity but it doesn't look overly encouraging for snow lovers.

Speaking of crazy weather, when I was in Kosovo, once the weather got cold, it rarely got above freezing the rest of the winter. It would warm up to snow.
i believe it. I don't mind snow one bit. its the wind that gets annoying

00z GFS "snow" map - that is probably all freezing rain or sleet until Central Bama/ Georgia

7-9 inches in Georgia? Holy balls the state would never reopen

I wanna see snow in CenLA
but it's like it's going to develop all out to my east
also I have 2 home basketball games to work tomorrow night
ETA: they're not even putting out winter weather advisories in this parish

Annoying. People get hysterical and they shut down everything. There's nothing good about snow or ice here. It's just miserable

LIX just put out a statement warning about black ice.
Sleet being reported in McComb.

quote:
Arctic air will cause temperatures to fall well below freezing by dark. This will begin to occur just as precipitation is moving out of the area. Exposed roadways will remain very wet as temperatures fall quickly into the 20s during the late afternoon and evening. This will cause areas of black ice to develop on these road surfaces since there will not be enough time for travel lanes to dry.
Sleet being reported in McComb.

That sounding is hot linked and updated, the earlier version had a surface temp of 33 and a much larger warm nose.
ETA: It looks like I linked the wrong sounding, I'm a retard
