I think that was more coincidental than anything. It snowed in 08 and 2009 was a down year for the tropics.

Lafourche Parish has this to say:
quote:
Entergy has asked for residents to contact them of any outages, but residents need to be prepared for prolonged outages due to unsafe road conditions. Road conditions will be a significant concern. Please, if you must be on the road, drive with extreme caution. Bridges and elevated roadways will be first to experience ice accumulation and freezing.
In the event of a winter storm, especially any with electrical power outages please refer to our list of recommended supplies. Preparedness recommendations include:
· 3 day supply of food per person (at least)
· Gallon of water, per person per day
· Medications (5 day supply)
· Batteries
· Fuel for generators in case of power outages
Residents are reminded to respect all road closures and police barricades and to drive with extreme caution and reduce speeds if you must be on the roads. Black ice is a significant concern; please stay off the roads during this winter storm. Weather updates can be found on the parish website and Facebook pages.

Cheap eletric heaters are hard to come by around BR. Apparently most places have been sold out for weeks. Finally found some at walmart on oneal after stopping atthree different stores.

Not sure of the reliability of this model, but looks like a lot of frozen precip, followed by a few hours of solid snow.

I know its cousin the HWRF for hurricanes is shite, not sure about this one
with that one we're looking at ~20 hours of straight ice, with 2-3 hours of snow afterwards

Seems about right and Medic can correct me on this.
Lot of the forecasts are calling for a high of mid to upper 30s on tuesday. With rain and cloud cover, thats probably a little high. We saw this past week, NOLA barely got above freezing during the day with the rain and sleet falling

agree, dr morrow would know more im guessing, but from what i know there's no way temps rise a lot on tues or wed... even after the storm.. and if there's snow on the ground it will rise even less.

Me too. But not a lot of wishcasting. Actually great information by knowledgeable people. If you want wishcasting go to that wunderground place for comparison.
And the statement about the Katrina information saving people is 100% accurate. I wouldn't dog anyone from there. Good people.

No, I lurk. They post the info I'm interested in and I am not knowledgeable enough to add anything of value.

We just got an email saying that the court is meeting at 1:30 to discuss possible closures. I think its only a formality at this point.
