Sounds like the forecasts for the real heavy stuff may be backing off a little.

Everyone in this thread better prepare for the mass amount of bitching that will occur if LSU isn't called off by 5.

Eta: not by me in particular

This is why timing is always made an issue with these storms.

I'm going not going to class tomorrow even if it isn't cancelled. The way LSU handles weather situations is nothing short of embarrassing.

Honestly, model reading doesn't matter anymore. Time to watch the radar. This has the potential to get really nasty. Whether it will be, well we will find out in 24 hours.

UNO CLOSED!

and

Slidell Police Department
UPDATE 11:35am: Official message from Slidell Police Chief Randy Smith: All non-essential police department employees will be off tomorrow and Wednesday. We will have extra officers on the roads toe ensure the safety of our citizens, but please, stay off of the roadways when the bad weather starts. The warm shelter will re-open tomorrow at the John Slidell Park until further notice and will be operated by the Red Cross. We predict rain, ice, sleet and snow starting in the morning and getting worse throughout the day and tomorrow evening. Also expected is the possibility of power outages due to falling power lines and tree limbs because of the icy conditions.

It will all depend on the timing of the collision of these two systems. The moisture is definitely there and there's no doubt an artic air mass is headed our way. People need to realize too that our surface temperatures don't dictate snowfall, this all occurs in the other levels of the atmosphere. This is why timing is such a key point. You could have snow in the upper atmosphere that melts as it hits warm pockets, then re-freezes and comes down as sleet or freezing rain. This pic is a very basic representation of how it occurs.
