Yeah I haven't seen an official national weather service predicting much accumulation yet.

But through today the chance of precip has gone way up and accumulation predictions have gone from none to half an inch.

It's only going to go up.

Link? I thought they were increasing this evening?

always look at weather.gov for forecasts.. they have kept the same "little to no" accumulation, but they have gone up on percentages from 30-40% to 70-80%. Usually for our storms they have said "little to no" even when we end up with inches of snow.. but at the moment its looking like a big ice event with a snow dusting at the end.

I doubt schools close

If the forecasts don't change, then I guarantee you that all schools in the area will close for Tuesday and possibly Wednesday. Snow is expected in the BR area anytime from noon to 9 pm Tuesday according to the most recent projections. Schools wont open knowing that snow will most likely be on the roads when students leave to go home Tuesday.

from a blog on the ice storm in 97

quote:

Major ice accumulations of 1/2-1" accumulated on nearly everything, and it was the weight of the ice on the trees and power lines that led to all the problems. Roads that weren't icy were nearly impassable anyway because of trees or power lines in the road.

WILL
CONTINUE TO FINE TUNE SOME OF THE DETAILS WITH THIS...BUT IT IS
STILL TOO EARLY TO HAVE GREAT CONFIDENCE IN ICE AND SNOW
ACCUMULATIONS. A TRANSITION FROM THE MIX TO MORE SNOW IS LIKELY
TUESDAY EVENING...AND SOME MEASURABLE ACCUMULATIONS ARE A GOOD
POSSIBILITY...ESPECIALLY OVER THE NORTHERN HALF OF THE AREA.

People down here have no idea just how little ice can royally frick everything over.

We got probably an 1/8 of an inch at most last week.

An inch would be like Gustav.

I actually really trust his forecast. Not because it's right, but because I can trust the opposite to happen. If you look at it like that, he bats 1.000

Had an ice storm in the late 80's (I think) in NW La where pine needles were falling like little incoming missiles. Had several limbs go through my roof and night was terrifying listening to limbs break and fall at the rate of several a minute. The damage was awful.

been through a few of them when I lived in Maryland...believe me, you'd rather have a foot and a half of snow rather than a half inch of ice!!!

Very true. Snow is a cakewalk compared to ice. We don't have ice storms here, I don't miss them at all.

Surreal listening to limbs fall all night, hoping your house makes it until the sun comes up.
