Ocean effect snow that gets pushed up mountains. Its my nirvana.

I will admit, with nothing else at all to do but chill and enjoy it, I wouldn't mind experiencing that kind of snow. Being in an area that had the proper equipment to handle it makes all the different. Some of the machinery the heavy snow areas of Japan has makes me feel like a little kid again. I want to drive it!

Its all about the tires, a good awd vehicle, and treatment of those elevated roadways.

I could handle it now in NOLA if it happened, because I still have my soft A/Ts on (have you seen the "roads" around here).

and yes, im back south for the next few months

James Reynolds on Twitter has had some really good video out of Japan this Winter.

Sapporo gets around 200" of snow annually. THat's a hell of a lot for a city that size.

Trough goes negative tilt, eventually closes off, and forces a bunch of air to rise over the gulf stream causing a surface low to form and rapidly deepen.

Just beautiful.

The band about to get into the Boston area should put down some legendary snowfall rates.

Ill steal Eric Webb's (@webbweather) numbers to illustrate. Assume a 15:1 snow to liquid ratio. Very reasonable for the thermo profile.

Boston radar estimating .3"-.35" of liquid falling per hour in that band.

Lets stay conservative, take .3" as the max. At a 15:1 ratio...4.5"/hr snowfall.

And could be pushing 6" where its really bombing.
