I just think you're giving the average lottery winner too much credit that they know what they're doing.
Posted on 2/14/19 at 12:36 pm to GetCocky11
and why would it take that long to get your shite in order or wait until the very last day to claim it?

I’d bet anything the person who won doesn’t know they had the winning ticket.

I think the ticket simply got lost or destroyed. It is the most plausible explanation. I have doubts that the winner even knows that he/she won.

There was a thread back around the time of the drawing where some guy said that winning such a large jackpot was too risky because groups of people would just scour the winning town and kill people looking for the winner.
We all laughed at him but maybe he was right after all.

I wouldn't either till I had my stuff setup so my identity would never be known.

Don’t they announce the exact location of where the winning ticket was purchased? He or she knows where they bought the ticket and if they lost it I’m pretty sure he or she is pretty sick to their stomach right now knowing the chances are extremely good that they had the winning ticket.

Don't convenience stores have security cameras on the cash register?
They know where the ticket was sold, don't they know when the ticket was sold?
So,... can't they figure out who bought it? Or St least narrow it down to a few customers?

Fully agree

States make out like a bandit on these unclaimed tickets. ALLLLLL the money goes back to the participating states, yet there is no declared winner of the ticket.
The winner should be forfeited and it all (minus a percentage) goes back into the pot.

Are groups of people scouring the winning town and shaking down the store clerks that sold the winner?
Posted on 2/14/19 at 2:14 pm to TechDawg2007
have they said where it was purchased?

Wasnt it in SC? Or was that a different jackpot?

Assuming a $750,000,000 cash prize, 40% going to taxes, and a very conservative 5% return, I ballpark that you give up around 60 grand for every day you wait to claim your prize.
My numbers are nonsense, but that is my spitball take of the price of overcaution.

Guy that won it is a 24 yr old engineering tech that worked at the ZF Transmission factory in Fountain Inn, just south of Greenville. Winning ticket was bought at a gas station less than two miles from my house.
I'm sure he is getting his stuff in order and was hoping the attention would settle down but I think he made a mistake in waiting too long. Hell even the state is tired of waiting because South Carolina is getting over 61 million in state tax from his winnings, something they have mentioned recently in several news articles.
SC is luckily one of the states where winners can remain anonymous, so I don't imagine you'll be seeing too many pics of him getting the check. More than likely his attorney will handle that while Shane (Did I say that out loud?
) watches from a tv in remote Upstate SC somewhere.

The winning ticket was announced last October. If someone is still waiting to claim it, I would love to know exactly what the hell they have been doing this whole time.

If true, he sounds like a genius. Delaying collecting the prize to avoid attention won't help too much.
Pics of him with a check won't matter, either. If he stays in state, he'll be identified in no time. Somebody in his inner circle (or he himself) will blab, or an old high school classmate will see him in a Lambo. A month tops before a reporter gets it. He can't stay anonymous in Mayberry.
If you want to avoid attention, go off the grid or move abroad or live somewhere that rich folks don't attract attention. Even then, it is only a matter of time. Deal with it.
