I have nothing to add to this conversation other than one question.

How in the hell is Portland any more major than New Orleans?

As for New Orleans, love the place or hate the place, you can craft a decent argument that population for population or pound for pound if you will, NO is one of the most culturally distinctive cities in the Western Hemisphere.

Portland...?

I’m not going back to Nola unless I have to....
ie a funeral, school event for my child.
I am over that place.

That’s a very big if. There are plenty of non-Catholics that go to Catholic schools in New Orleans because it is the best available option for average students and not Newman, CD, St Martin’s expensive.

I’m with you. I’ve had Saints season tickets for 21yrs. I won’t be renewing next yr. We typically would stay 3-4 weekends a year, whether for Saints games, concerts, the zoo/aquarium with the kids, etc. I don’t see us coming back. I might find less expensive flights out of MSY but I’ll pay more for the convenience of GPT. I won’t spend money in a place that doesn’t want my business.

2022 will be prime for the chain restaurants to move in.

Covid restrictions destroying businesses? Sure.

Civil unrest? I'm trying to think of any examples in NOLA?

It all hinges on whether or not Lauren Daigle is scheduled to perform.

You could be right about this, but I wouldn't take it for granted. The world is changing fast these days. It wasn't so long ago that people in Baltimore felt pretty good about themselves with a new baseball stadium and fancy development around the harbor. If you ask me, the medium to long term prospects for NO are very bleak.

The city had a chance to really do some good after Katrina. That opportunity was wasted. Terrible leadership and too much pandering to the criminal and parasite class.

My new neighbors are from Baltimore. Bought a $1.6MM house and are excited because, in their view, NOLA is a lot better than Baltimore.

Will Covid be looked as Katrina 2.0 for Nola? Obviously not as physically destructive but fiscally? Might get flamed for this. Regardless Thousands of small businesses are getting wiped just when the city was getting close to pre katrina levels. Leadership worst its ever been and thats saying alot.

Yeah, that's my point. Just about every city in the US is a lot better than Baltimore these days. But believe it or not, it wasn't always that way.

I would believe it.

There is plenty of upside for people in upper-middle or above. No doubt a lot of bullshite to deal with, but there is always bullshite to deal with.

Completely serious. We hear talks about how bad Covid-19 and the Civil Unrest over the summer is going to hurt cities

By summer time we will have over half our population vaccinated, and we will be vaccinating the rest at a rate of about three million per day. There will be no pandemic this summer. Anyone who tells you otherwise is a dummy or a sensationalist (especially Fauci).

After having lived in 3 other major cities and traveled to pretty much all of them in the US, I can honestly say NOLA finished NOLA. It’s basically Detroit with more potholes and shittier suburbs.

Got a lot of character. I’ll give you that.

Not very familiar with Metro Detroit and potholes are you? I can see the urge to compare NOLA and Detroit but Detroit is a few deviations shittier than New Orleans.

Imagine New Orleans with no Audubon or City Park, no French Quarter, three Boomtown Casinos located in Central City or Hollygrove, and the only really safe place to be is within a block or two of the Superdome or a two block stretch of Magazine Street. New Orleans is NOTHING like Detroit.

Unfortunately New Orleans is a city that relies on visitors for it’s tax base so without that, the city cannot make ends meet. Latoya ought to be clamoring for tourist dollars but she’s fallen into the allure of disaster funding for city services.

She’d rather whine to the state and feds and get bailed out than actually try to make ends meet by running an efficient office

She has 8 assistants making over 150,000 a year!

People have been moving out but it hasn’t been felt yet. By June it will be noticeable

I’m hearing Jazz Fest in October. Not sure about other festivals but I know some are looking at Jefferson Parish
