I watch some thrifting and garage selling channels on YouTube. It’s typically older buyers buying from younger sellers/collectors. Many of those younger collectors will gain interest again and become older buyers themselves and the cycle continues.

I have a modest sports card collection but the one thing that is apparent to me is that it’s all driven by rarity. If Pokémon can keep from getting too greedy and overproduction of their product, I don’t see them going anywhere.

25+ years and they are the only company that can make Pokemon cards, they're going to be around for a little while longer.

Pokemon has generational and cross cultural interest. (Mostly male)

Beanie Babies were just a brief fad for middle aged women. They change their minds all the time.

The only way Pokemon goes in the trash heap is if someone like Disney bought it and “put a chick in it and made it gay”.

(Disney does not have 10% of the money required to buy Pokemon)

Comparing these two things is unbelievable

How many copies of the Beanie Baby games have sold?
And can’t forget all those popular Beanie Baby shows and movies.

Damn I better go find and dust off my Pokémon card collection before it’s too late. 5th grade me had a hell of a holographic collection.

It needs to be policy that for all forest releases stores must break the seal on the products.

Investors and scalpers should come second to casual fans.

Pokemon is the most valuable media franchise in the world. Bigger than anything including anything Disney. It's not going anywhere. Beany Babies never got that high

Trying to find cards for my nephew for his birthday in a few weeks. They are sold out everywhere and have been for months

My kid is a freshman at LSU and apparently Pokémon collecting is the biggest thing ever. I asked him if he wanted to go up to Hoover for the weekend but he said he had a prior commitment collecting Pokémon’s.

How are people figuring out how much the brand or company are worth? I know very little about both. Thanks

Did you find any beanie boos? The ones with the big eyes? They aren’t worth much, well, mostly, but that’s what my youngest likes.

I remember my roommate in college playing pokemon- it’s still around, so it may not go anywhere. My older kids were into it for a while when the 3DS games were coming out.

I remember back in 85/86, I sold a ton of McGuire Olympic cards for $75 and Eric Davis Dunruss black borders for $100. They are worthless today

Clearly, refractors don't exist in Pokemon

Beanie babies were produced as a faux collectors item. Pokemon was built on genuine interest and enjoyment of the game and anime.

Sports cards are still far and away more collected than Pokemon

I had someone offer me some decent cash for the Pokemon stuff from Burger King they had in 1999/2000. Found it in my storage unit and made a blurb about it and dude offered me a grand. Looked at ebay and my jaw dropped.
