Lol Def Leppard. They sound exactly like Shania Twain.

And vice versa.

A guilty pleasure. But a transient high.

Friday and Saturday. I'm not going.

I am, however, going Sunday. When Tyler Childers, Charley Crockett, and Sierra Ferrell are playing.

Maybe this is part of the answer. Maybe the interest has shifted to the likes of Isbell, Surgis, Childers. Ferrell, Crockett, Turnpike Troubadours, etc.

This is another great point. Interests among my age group HAVE turned towards solo country and folk acts (Turnpike obviously being the exception) that will not be played on radio, because their music is not made for radio.

Is it a search for authenticity? Because Childers, Ferrell, and Isbell (even though he's a flaming liberal dick) offer that in spades.

Turnpike has some nice catchy ditties but...it's paint by the numbers. Sturgill is the weird one. His output is weird.

Tyler is the one kicking arse. And I'm rooting for the Sierra Ferrell rocketship.

Yes. That is exactly it. And when artists like Tyler and even Zach Bryan to a certain extent started putting out music that sounded like it meant something to them, it had a huge effect.

Zach Bryan is an interesting wrinkle. To your point, he probably has the biggest audience. I don't get it. But I do think it "means something to him"

At the same time, I don't think he's anywhere near the orbit of Childers in terms of songwriting and talent. Or Isbell. Or Ferrell.

But he's resonating. And probably drawing audiences bigger than anyone I've mentioned. Hell he got Springsteen on stage with him. He's an interesting case. They are all skirting the Nashville/"Country" machine. So props to them all.

but the actual vocals and the music are incredibly solid. Hard to compete with Rhoda Hardcock in real life.

the same guy posted here, Rick Beato had another video on AI and the most interesting part is both of his teenage kids can tell if a song he’s playing is AI almost immediately when even he as a music producer can’t. And neither kid could explain the “why”, but it’s something in the vocals they can hear.

so the only hope for real music is that young people just reject AI produced stuff even if it’s good just because they don’t want it

Bands never went away. Hard rock/metal is booming right now and it isn't due to solo artists.

I think OP is rightfully bitching about piped in music in stadiums vs tracks played from the stadium DJ.

The world is a big place. Live bands are huge and amazingly good in Japan.

I just wish they would bring back the ticket prices of the early eighties and before.

Eight kickass tickets for $120 or so. $10 - $12 dollar jerseys. $1 for a cup of foam. Free parking.

Music in general went to shite once MTV started playing Rap. Now generations were raised listening to that shite and enjoy it like it's good. Spend 5 minutes in Tiger Stadium and watch the student section dancing and singing away to that miserable monotous crap.

No wonder Bands aren't what they used to be.

How often do you go to local clubs and festivals? I don’t know if rock bands will ever be as popular as they once were but there’s still plenty of people making great music. In general terms, there’s plenty to listen to.

Goose
Iceman Special
Green sky Bluegrass
Neal Francis
Galactic
Eggy
JJ Grey and Monfro
St Paul and the Broken Bones
The Roots
Honey Island Swamp Band

Honest question: how often do those of you complaining about the lack of bands actually go out and financially support bands? How often are you buying albums? Going to shows?

Music will never make a comeback if you want the next Pink Floyd or Lynyrd Skynyrd to come up for free without a paying audience.

Rock bands dominated the airwaves in the late 1980’s though
