There’s so much liability for the state. If a family is burned alive trying to save their barn and chickens the state will be sued. Plus the public has no idea what the overall plan is. Backfires could be getting set or lines to push the fire a certain way.

A tractor and box blade won’t stop a 8’ flame head fire much less a 50-60’ crown fire

I have family and friends between Ragley & Longville. I’ll keep bumping thread if I have to. And thanks for all the posters with inside info. Praying for SWLA

I think the Ragle Rd fire is contained for now and they are watching for hotspots and flare-ups. My mom and brother are in Ragley and said all is OK as of now. Lightning the other day did start a few small fires there that were put out quickly.

The Beauregard arena is being evacuated of the animals that had been brought there.

Also reading two hours ago that heavy machinery is just sitting for several days … also reading that local farmers are getting shite done. Can definitely believe that.

I don't understand this unless they are just worried about the smoke killing the animals. It would be impossible for it to burn. All metal and surrounded by gravel and dirt parking. Cut the field around it short and it will be OK.

Obviously families/women and children cant stay and fight the fires themselves but guys that have lived in the area their whole lives that have their own equipment can definitely save homes and properties themselves

Yeah one of the guys that works there was saying a couple nights ago in an interview that with all the asphalt and dirt roads around there was no issues and wouldn’t be any issues no matter what happened

Exactly. It seems like a lot of unnecessary work to move the animals all the way to the Burton.

Evacuating the nursing homes in DeRidder out of abundance of caution yesterday was eye opening for a lot of people. The nursing homes are all pretty centered in DeRidder and this thing would really have to get out of hand for them to ever realistically be in harms way.

The state has a ton of liability and they are absolutely making plans to serve the state. Good to see the community doing what needs to be done to to help their neighbors.

I imagine it’s more for the comfort of the owners. I imagine most of them are calling for updates and wringing their hands…. That and it takes resources to tend to them that would probably be more useful supporting the actual fire efforts.

There are volunteers helping with the animals. No one is being taken away from the fire for that.

Understand that, those folks could be used to serve those that are fighting the fires…. Water, food, cooling stations, etc. I’m not sure that’s what they’re doing but it makes sense to me.

Side note, we have a big group going to feed the first responders that way today. I think there’s 35 or so pork butts with all the fixings. Pretty proud of our little town pulling together. They’re leaving around noon to setup for supper at the Vernon Parish 911 headquarters.

A bunch of cattle and livestock sitting in a metal building with fires all around it and embers being thrown would probably stress out the livestock is what I imagine they are worried with.

I get your point but isn’t that what we did as kids for the Livestock shows?
