re: Why would you go on national television and prove you can't provide for your family?

Festus, all due respect, why is Louisiana housing going up?
It's my understanding that housing is going up nation wide.
Now, as far as insurance, it's because of the catastrophes living off the gulf, resulting in high payouts, and insurance company greed, with corrupt insurance commissioners allowing much higher premiums to be charged. It caused several young, start up companies to go under, as they were not sufficiently reinsured. And when that happens, your choices for writing your Homeowner's Policy plummets, and you might end up with Citizens, which is backed by the state. And those premiums are 2-3 times higher.
And that's coming from someone that has been in the insurance business my entire work life. La. is a mess.

I just think it’s laughable to say you just need to do some simple research in year x to know what your monthly payment will be in year (x+3).
I misunderstood. I thought you meant at closing.

Your average houstonian or florida resident pays way more per month today than they did for the same house 5 years ago.
I agree with this. But what I'm saying is, just looking at property taxes and insurance, if you've already locked into your mortgage, I don't think it's as bad as you are making it out to be. I guess it depends on your definition of "way more".
But is the price of purchasing a house today "way more" than 5 years ago, across America, I would say yes. That's why I'm not buying, I'm staying put. And it's not killing me.

i think people are reading too much into how she worded it. Sounds like they are more house-poor due to the rapid rise in housing prices post-COVID.

The $25k will just be added to prices like contractors and insurance deductibles. This also a good indicator of how poorly people's are educated in economics. They do not understand that increasing demand and not supply is inflationary in itself

I know for my house I pay like 5600 in homeowners, but citizens for my property is 18k.
If a hurricane or something were to come through and cause my insurance to drop me and no other private insurers to pick me back up my monthly payment would go up over grand. If that happened, my escrow payment would be nearly as much as my P+I.

Your major cities are decreasing in population. Your suburbs are increasing. Your tax burden of those inner cities, infrastructure and schools aren't somehow gathered whether you're there or not?
frick trannies, abortion and immigration. You need to worry about real stuff

Aside from the soyboy and OT 6 in the OP, I do feel for the sliver of people who had saved just enough that they were planning on making their first home purchase in 2020 only to hold off due to covid uncertainty and then the market just blasted past them.

You asked me a straightforward question, and I answered it. And you did it with all due respect, which I appreciated.
And you forgot about saying "frick" to out of control inflation and ridiculous spending on wars while ignoring our domestic issues. Is that real stuff for you?
And why would you not think uncontrolled immigration is a major problem? If it's not to you, then I think you need to reassess your priorities. I actually think both parties are realizing what a problem it's created.

wife and i started shopping in 2019. Passed on so many houses over little shite because we were month to month on a lease and thought we had flexibility.
December 2019 passed on a house we should have bought. Ended up closing on one nearby for more money and not as nice in April, i consider myself lucky that we got in when we did. Still wish i had that pool on every hot day
Comparable houses on our street were going for 20-40% over what we paid. The higher end of that has been sitting on the market now a days

Kamala's plan is to 'give' first time home buyers $25K while simultaneously giving new startups a $50K tax break. I guess the money to fund these 'programs' will just come out of thin air?
They will just put this in the Inflation Reduction Act. Which is a spending bill no doubt. Oh, the irony.

I was going to ask, "what the hell is wrong with this couple". Then, I remembered the whole thing is scripted & should not be taken seriously. It'll come out later this week that this lady's mother worked for Biden for the last twenty five years.

100% fake. You're an idiot if you buy a house not knowing what your mortgage is going to be and a colossal idiot if you buy a house that you can't afford then go on TV crying about it.
Not sure I agree with you here.
The mortgage my wife and I signed up to pay for when we bought our house is now $918 more expensive in 2024 than it was in 2017..
The only difference is we made some adjustments and I did/do what’s necessary for us to be comfortable instead of crying on tv for the government to help

I'm seriously curious how does this even happen... fraud???... greedy lenders???... them folks wouldn't give me shite until I had every thing in order... how does one even get to the point of being approved... I could see vehicles because anyone can come up with enough for a down payment and be stupid enough to pay 800$ or more for a car note
